Detailed Issue - Help Needed - iCal sync works but only after turning off/on

Scenario:

1. iCal (mac) and web-based MMe App sync perfectly
2. iCal (iPhone) syncs only after following these steps:
a. Turn syncing for calendar off in settings
b. Put phone in standby mode
c. Turn phone on
d. Turn syncing on in settings
e. Open calendar, wait while it refreshes.
f. Sync's perfectly.

Also, changes made on iPhone to iCal are received perfectly by MMe app.

Have tried push/fetch settings tweaking to no avail.

Any ideas are most appreciated. Anyone else have this issue?
