Do we know how the new sound system in the iPhone 11 pro is functioning? They mentioned spatial audio in the keynote and I wonder how that’s going to work, will it only be in Netflix or will it be in YouTube and all apps.. can’t find much info on this feature and the 11 Pro’s audio system whatsoever

It is ATMOS, which the content needs to support (Netflix has some). You will never notice ATMOS (overhead speakers) on a phone. It's a stat line if you will.

What about the audio visualizer Apple talked about? (They mentioned that along with Atmos)

The audio specs on the XS Max were "wider stereo playback". The audio specs for the 11 Pro Max is "spatial audio playback" and dolby atmos. I would think the Pros will sound a little better than the XS models.

I’m not talking about the Max in specific, I’m talking about the smaller iPhone 11 Pro but regardless Apple said these phones are going to have improved audio with included spatial audio and I wonder how that’s going to work in real-world usage

I am sure they will sound better, that always seems to be the case. You have to be realistic though; How much spatial audio can you get across 6".

they could do something special if the sound came from the screen itself such as on the Sony OLED Tv’s but I just don’t understand why they would advertise “spatial audio” if that wasn’t the case on the iPhone 11 Pro

Here is a good article:
https://www.techradar.com/news/dolby-atmos-comes-to-iphone-11-heres-why-thats-good-and-bad

It probably just uses the stereo speakers in a better way with software. There could be an additional speaker somewhere, but only a breakdown will show.

This sums it up nicely, "any innovation is better than no innovation at all. And while Atmos on iPhone might not live up to our lofty expectations and previous experiences with the technology, it's an exciting taste of what better audio sounds"

Forgive my ignorance, but do any of these audio innovations add anything if I'm primarily listening with headphones? (Both AirPods and Sony 1000X)

Dolby Atmos is the name of a surround sound technology by Dolby Laboratories that was introduced in June 2012 with the release of the animated film Brave. Following the release of Atmos for the cinema market, a variety of consumer technologies have been released under the Atmos brand. Wikipedia

It’s been around awhile and is comparable to surround a sound

It’s all apples marketing Atmos needs a cinema system not 2 tiny phone speakers lol

What are you implying? That Apple is falsely advertising a feature that does nothing? Read the article above.
Yea everything Apple markets is false the screen are always so amazing but in person have yellow tints the speakers can not have Dolby Atmos you need a 5.1.2 or more surround system it’s all lies

Have you heard the iPhone 11’s speakers? I doubt it. Yet you make such blunt claims like you know something others don’t, if you dislike Apple so bad then why are you even roaming MacRumors lol

True Spatial audio is certainly possible if Apple can somehow make the audio come out of the display of the iPhone as opposed to from the speakers (Such as on the Sony OLED Tv’s) however I am still eager to see how improved the overall audio is on the iPhone 11 Pro.

im still an apple user and fan boy im not switching but I can still say what's wrong with apple, as a AV guy my self all im saying its marketing Atmos like Dolby Digital 5.1 is sound coming from 7 speakers around the room, even sound bars cant do it but they say Atmos support its just PR it could be called virtual Atmos but its NOT atmos, if you know anything about atmos you would understand, apple just loves over marketing products

ATMOS on a phone? Please.
I know this user on the forum thinks 2 small phone speakers can give 7.1 DTX Atmos, I worrying thing is people are believing this nonsense

all this is the EQ will be tuned to have virtual audio nothing more nothing better it does not have Dolby Atmos as for that you need 7.1.2 AV Set up with speakers in separate channels
