Detecting image retention on rMBP

I just got my new rMBP 15" and did a check of the panel serial, it's an LG.

Colour reproduction and backlight are working perfectly, but I am aware that some have had "image retention issues" with LG panels.

Basically I was just wondering:

1) Will this be obvious if it occurs
2) Is it immediately obvious or is it random

From my experience with this issue on my (2012) MBP, it didn't start until the machine was nearly a year old. The IR itself was very light and unobtrusive at first, and got progressively worse over a few weeks. But yes, even at its lightest, I found it was immediately obvious and noticeable. I'd assume it would work in the same way for the 2013 MBPs, as from what I understand from the various threads on this (though I could be wrong, please correct me if I am), LG are still using the same series of panels, if slightly updated.

That said, if you're really worried, there are various threads out there with screen tests you can run. But going by my own experience with this issue, once it happened it was definitely obvious.

That was my experience, yep. Replaced under AppleCare, no charge.
