Would be nice if these things were announced sooner so I would wait and not get a non-Mac version. It is so hit or miss when we actually get ports. You'd think things would have gotten better since the Intel transition but if anything they've gotten worse.

All nice and well, but to Be completely honest, the difference in Performance (which Starts with a sluggish Mouse Movement) between osx and Windows is huge, even for relatively LOW demanding Games like starcraft2. I hesitated to admit this some Time ago, but the Mac (osx that is) is Not a good gamingplatform for Serious gaming, for casuals it might be ok though..
 
Agreed, top news and good effort by Feral. However, as much as Apple refuse to really give themselves to the gaming world I can't blame them as the competition from Bootcamp and consoles just makes it financially unviable.

With Lion, lasted drivers and modern games like Portal 2 you can see OSX even beating Windows in performance. Many gaming devices support OS X now like Razer and Cyborg mice. All my friends and me plays from OS X.

Feral ports are always well coded and optimized, sadly they don't support Steam. I will buy this game for sure.
 
I didn't get around to buying this for Xbox on release and lost interest. I might purchase from the Mac App. Store this time. I recently purchased "GTA: III" & "GTA: Vice City" from the Mac App. Store, tons of fun... brings back great memories.
 
Apple seems to be becoming more aware of the fact that people want to game on their computers though.

Apple have been aware of that for over a decade, back when great companies like Westlake Interactive kept porting as many major game releases as they could get their hands on and kept reminding Apple that Mac users wanted to play games. That's when IMG started.

Apple have as much interest in gaming outside of an iOS platform as they always have. i.e. none.
 
I've been eyeing this game. But now that I hear it is coming out for the Mac, I will wait. I might have bought it for my 360 but it should look better on my Mac. So I'm very happy about this. I don't care if it isn't available on Steam. It would be cool if it came out on the App Store, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that.

Honestly, I think part of the problem has been the fact that although you see a lot of Macs around (especially on college campuses), the majority have been lower-end Macs like the on-board Intel-based video Macbooks or Mac Minis. Those weren't really good performers with most of the current 1st. person shooter titles being released.

As the product lineup evolves though, you're at a point now where even the cheapest Macbook Pro 13" includes much better specs than anything you used to see with a Macbook name on it (and for about the same price). For that matter, even any of the "recently discontinued" iMacs you can buy refurbished on sale are capable of running modern games at usable frame-rates.

There's no longer much of an excuse to claim you can't make a Windows title run well enough to play on "most of the Macs being sold", if you port it properly to OS X.


Amen. The whole "PC only" idea seems a bit antiquated right now; there's as many Macs as PCs on my college campus, so surely there's a market out there.

Well, I think one problem (at least if rumors and second-info can be believed) was that Steve Jobs himself was never much of a fan of gaming. In particular, I understand he disliked violence in games, and didn't ever want war-games or violent games to be sold under the Apple label.
Even if you go as far back in history as the titles Apple used to bundle with some of the Performa machines, they had quiz/trivia game show type games, or card games like Solitaire. Nanosaur may be the most violent game Apple ever put their "stamp of approval" on!

(He probably cringed when he saw they finally ported Grand Theft Auto to OS X.)

When you look at the vast majority of the "big hit releases" for the PC, you're left with practically nothing if you remove all of them with any kind of killing or violence in them.

It might be interesting to see if things change with Tim Cook in charge, after he settles in ....

MechWarrior 2 and Descent 2 came with my PowerMac 6500. And don't forget John Carmack of ID and Bungie both scoring Apple keynote appearences.

That said, I think you are totally right regarding Jobs' stance of games. Not necessarily the violence, but that they are a waste of time. Apple seemed almost embarrassed at first to admit that iPod Touch gaming was very popular.
 
Having played it through via Bootcamp, I'm happy to see it come to OS X, for those people too stubborn to set up their other partition. It's too awesome a game to let something as inane as platform purity get in the way.

That said, I'm sad to think my Steam copy isn't going to get it.

I wish publishers would take into account the porting process and bundle both versions together.
 
I purchased this game for the PS3 and just completed it.

It's entertaining and keeps you gaming for a long time, especially if you enjoy searching for all the hidden areas, quests, items and xp.

The storyline, although starts well, seems to loose direction and has all the hallmarks of being written by multiple people much like US drama's ;). Sections of the story don't quite follow on from each other or link up.

The end seems very abrupt. Almost as if the writer lost interest.
 
this is great news, i hope they bust a STEAM and give us the original part 1 for free (like when steam gave away portal 1 away for free when launching STEAM for mac and just before Portal 2 launch). :D

Valve brought Steam to Mac because it doesn't make sense financially. Sure :rolleyes:

After beating it on the PC, I spent a bit of effort trying to get it to run on my Mac... I tried WINE and even Parallels. It only ran in Parallels, but the performance is less than ideal. Out of desperation, I even tried it out on Onlive. Yuck.

I liked the game a lot, and honestly, I'll pay for it again if they don't use Steamplay (which they likely won't).

Amazing news... I just wish they'd give the same treatment to bf3 and swtor.

You NEED to use Bootcamp. You can't run a resource intensive game in a OS emulator under another OS.
