See attached link. Apparently the new IOS4.1 Beta has a new baseband 5.14.1 which Ultrasn0w does not unlock. Even more important to save SHSH.

While I generally agree that posting threads on every Dev-Team tweet is unnecessary, I do not think it at all inappropriate to provide this warning here. The fact that the info comes from Twitter doesn't make it any less valid, and if it prevents a bunch of "Help! I accidentally upgraded!" threads, all the better.

You are an optimist. 🙂 Not to mention I'd think it'd be common sense that anyone with a jailbroken phone does not upgrade until the dev-team says it's OK. I guess I'm an optimist, too, thinking this is common knowledge.

Sorry for being dumb but I am when it comes to jailbreaking an iPhone. Do you mean don't upgrade to 4.1 or 4.0.1? Sorry for the probably dumb question. And on twitter who is it that you follow to hear the latest on the progress of the iPhone jailbreak?
Saving the SHSH will help you avoid the upgrade and associated baseband if your phone gets hosed for some reason.

The shsh's are alway been there to be able to downgrade your firmware and JB it.
It has nothing to do with unlocking.

4.1, which is currently beta (available to developers).
4.0.1 does not upgrade the baseband.

Well it does affect unlocking in a way. When apple is only signing IOS4.1 with the 5.14.1 baseband. It allows you to restore to 4.0 or 4.0.1 and preserve the previous baseband for unlocking.

I personally haven't even upgraded to 4.0.1 I rather just wait for them to release the jailbreak before I upgrade anything. Haven't upgraded iTunes either..... I know they tweeted that 4.0.1 was ok but I'm in no rush since 4.0 is working well for me. I'll just wait and if need be I'll upgrade when the JB comes out.... in the meantime I don't have anything to worry about.

Not directly but yes if your phone gets messed up and you need to restore at least you wont have to update to the latest firmware and baseband.
