My Apple ID is not associated with a paid developer account. I have created an account on the developer web site so I can look at it, but I never paid any money so I can’t actually publish apps or anything.

On both my iPhone and iPad, I’m seeing the option to enable the iOS 16 developer beta software updates. Neither device has ever had a beta installed.

This seems wrong. Is anyone else seeing this?

Same here AND it’s letting me download the developer beta today.

Very interesting, could it be possible that anyone can opt into the developer beta now? I know we took this as Apple cracking down but is it possible it’s actually the alternate so people don’t hunt profiles, register UDID’s etc? Wishful thinking, I’m sure.

It‘s probably laying the groundwork for iOS 17, where profiles etc. will stop working. So you‘ll probably still be able to roll with dev betas for the time being (16.x releases) until then.

The option disappeared for me today.
Try force quitting Settings. The beta options disappeared for me as well, I had deleted the profile almost 2 weeks ago now, force quitting and relaunching brought all the options back.

Nope. Still gone. I was never supposed to have the option though as I don’t have a paid developer account.

I’ve never had a paid account, I had only logged into it once a couple years ago using my primary Apple ID, that’s why it appears as an option for me. You actually don’t have to log in to see the page and what’s been posted. But some logging profiles for different functions and devices are downloadable from there so I did use my Apple ID for some profile that I don’t even remember now. But I’m not a developer and have never had an account.

I installed the developer beta from 16.4-.5 and once in .5 it gave me an error saying the account I was logged in with doesn’t have access to the selected beta. Chose public and now developer is gone. Oh well it was fun while it lasted!!

In my case it is even stranger. I have a valid developer AppleID from work and i am logged in on both iPhone and iPad.

On iPhone it shows me logged in correctly:

On iPad it says the same valid AppleID is not a developer account (which it is):

I’m not a paid dev haven’t in a while, I have the option in settings for the dev beta, it’s pre selected. Does show a warning ⚠️ saying it’s not a dev account, I can still check for updates and it’ll show 16.5, and it’ll install. Half tempted to just wait it out and update to RC versions and just get the public versions a week early.

Note to all who clicked public beta/off and the dev option has vanished. Factory reset and restore via iCloud backup, the restore process will ask if you would like to continue improving Apple software and be in the beta program. Saying yes will pre select the dev option again in settings, allowing you to update to a beta :)

What I can’t understand is say I did have a separate paid developer Apple ID. There’s no way currently to use it since the option to choose beta or not just completely disappeared on me. As such there’s no way to sign into a different ID.

Maybe just an oversight on apples side, have you tried signing up to the public beta on the account you are signed into?

Theoretically that should make the menu appear, then you can click sign into a different Apple ID.

Or it’s per design, else the menu would appear for millions and millions of people with just one option “off” and would confuse the average consumer.

I was about to post a thread about this, but I saw that I’m not the only one!
