What in the world has Apple done to it's Developer store Pricing? They seem to have raised the Pricing on everything up to EDU pricing except for the Power Macs and Powerbooks. For example the 20 inch cinema display used to be $1039 but now it lists at $1169 ala EDU store all Displays and accesories (ipod too) are now Priced at the EDU level. Also some things in the Developer Store are actually priced higher than the EDU store. For example the Developer store used to list the isight at $119 and not it lists at $134 which is more than the $129 listed in the EDU store. Same with the old 17 inch Studio display it used to list at I believe $539 at the Developer store now it is raised to $629 which is higher than the $599 in the EDU store. However items like CPU's and certain products and accessories retain their same Developer prices and are still priced much lower than the EDU store. Anyone with any ideas with whats with the change with the pricing strategy? Historically the Developer store offered the best deals possible now it makes sense for me to by certain things from the EDU store which I am still entitled to purchase as I am both a Student and Developer.

Hmmm. I've been considering becoming a Select member just so that, in a year, I get the discount with my renewal. However, if the discounts aren't that great anymore, I'm starting to wonder why I'd spend the $1000 (2 X $500) to get it.

You're lucky - in the UK we don't even get a developer store! You just have to ring them up and they'll work it out for you. Their phone sales (based in Cork, Ireland) are pretty hit-and-miss. I had to try a couple of times before they got it right.

Over here it was 20%, which was 5 or 6% more than the EDU discount.

I too was very upset over the new developer store after the WWDC, I was planning on getting a 20" display with my new G5(which has been delayed a month in shipping!), but I decided not to because it is not a deal anymore. Even at the edu price, it's not a very good deal(esp. when you factor in taxes and the warranty into the mix). I went with an Iiyama 20.1" lcd instead, more pixels(though not widescreen), same response time, and a thinner bezel than even apple has. The mount isn't as nice, and there is no little white apple, but I will deal. Plus it comes w/ a 3 year warranty, versus Apple's paltry 1 year.
it only seems worth it now if you are a student buying a power mac or a very high end developer. Apple is alienated some people on this one...
