Looks like these developers got their work done on time, so I'm not sure what all the others are crying about...

Reread through these threads and I explain exactly why its a huge problem. Oh and guess what, apps I have (Udemy for example) worked in iOS 14 beta 8, but broke on iOS 14 release. See the problem yet? Devs had their stuff working and the new release broke it because devs weren't given time to test against the GM.

I haven't seen apps that have issues yet on iOS 14 GM.. Thats just me though. I do have a lot of apps installed atm. But also I wonder how many of those "broken" apps are because developers programmed with assumptions that weren't safe/a good idea... If Apple did a last minute API change usually they do a good job at saying the risk of change or complete removal for example. Who knows what's going on in some developers apps that GM broke. If its latest features, then there's always the technique of feature flags.. But not every developer is able to do something like that.

WTH Apple.

My guess is 14.1 is what will ship on the new phones and it's not being released because they don't want people ripping it apart as they have in previous years to find clues about upcoming products. Which doesn't really explain the Xcode beta unless it's to keep the numbering in sync.

Interesting that I don't see Xcode listing the version numbers like in the screenshot. Wonder if they changed it already?

Apple forgot to inform developers? That’s a pretty big forget. I think it’s more likely Apple didn’t care. I won’t be sad when Phil Schiller retires. App Store and developer relations needs new blood.

Which is easier to believe?

That Apple would deliberately throw all their developers under the bus in a bid to recreate their best “I am changing the deal, pray I don’t change it any further” Darth Vader impression,

Or with so many things changing due to the pandemic, something like this simply got overlooked? With so many things having to be done differently, and everyone at Apple moving mountains just to make things happen, I am imagining one guy whose job is to publish the GM tools after the keynote, and another guy’s job is to release iOS 14 the following day, and nobody thought to compare notes and realise that hey, developers get just a day to test and update their apps?

Apple is a big company, and I think it’s size makes this sort of thing all the easier to overlook but otherwise, I don’t really see any indicator of foul play.

Though I do undefeated why developers are upset by this, as it does paint them in a bad light, and users are going to blame them when their apps don’t work and not Apple (already, Walletry is not loading on my phone; just gives me a black screen when I launch it).

Every September should of been ready, get to work instead of whining and making excuses, and your 70% cut isn’t enough????, it should be 50-50 split

You didn't address my question. How do you "get ready" if the tools REQUIRED are never distributed? Seeing as your posts are just calling people names, I'll guess you don't actually have a good response.

That’s the point. Ideally you would be on top of new beta releases. Also this is nothing new- Apple has done several OS betas before GM for a long time now. Still it’s not Apples fault if your company can’t be on top of the latest recommendations from Apple... Apple usually tells developers by example or explicitly when a new paradigm has emerged... So it’s equally valid to say it’s not Apples fault you are building iOS apps like it’s iOS 8 still and your app is significantly broken in iOS 14...

Again I’ll say it’s not Apples fault it’s your businesses fault... If you are bootstrapping and it’s a challenge to keep up with Apple it’s still not Apples fault.

What are you talking about? If we were on top or not on top of them how is one day enough time to react to the latest changes?

Sorry, must have missed you at the latest board meeting, what do you do again?

The even better part is that for once (yeah, maybe it happened once before...) the hardware release is out of sync and we are getting Watches delivered which we can’t use without upgrading our old phones to 14. Lol. Talk about stuck between rock and hard place!
(Yes, first world problems. What else is MR about?)

(It is the first time I recall immediate order and delivery in a few days for anything...)

Im a developer. But also O was talking about how developers lag behind Apple significantly sometimes and complain Apple breaks things or makes things difficult for them. For example using older Apple technology and then iOS 13 breaks your app. Those developers might say for “no good reason” Apple broke my app... Etc

You developers had whole summer to update your apps! Stop finding an excuse to bash at Apple.

Focus on 14.1 that will be dropping soon.

Update: Dang complaining developers! because of you now iOS 14 is slightly delayed :(

Update x2: OMG! You got to be kidding me. This is ridiculous.

Madam, any idea when IOS 14.0.1 is likely, as 14.0 bricked my phone. Unfortunately, I do not have a backup.

Only Apple know if there will be a 14.0.1, and if so, when.

In the meantime, why not just go with the still currently available 13.7?

And oh yeah, start backing up your device.
