My son is very interested in developing an iPhone app. I have no programming experience but I'd love to help him out. He's 10, but extremely bright.

From what I've read online, I'd need a Mac (or Hackintosh) and the SDK ($99). Is that the total outlay in terms of cost? Are their sites/resources for teaching the necessary coding skills to kids/dumb adults?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Actually, you wouldn't even have to put the $99 up until he has a firm grasp of the iPhone platform. Until then he can do all his testing on the computer simulator.

I think that the best learning resources out there are books. There are some good websites too, but I've learned the most from books.

    I'll recommend these to you:

    http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-iPh...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264217475&sr=8-1

    http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Objective-ndash-Mac/dp/1430218150/ref=pd_sim_b_2

When I was in the very early stages of learning all this, I just spent a ton of time exploring, trying things out, and reading more material on it. It's really amazing when it hits you that you get it.

    Good luck and have fun!
