Has anyone had first hand experience with the various methods of running a development server on the mac?

Ideally i need PHP, MySQL and Apache.. latest versions such as php 5.4. phpMyAdmin would be a bonus.

    Afaik, there are 3 options:

MAMP - Seems the easiest solution, but is only PHP 5.3 and development seems to have slowed? last release August 2011.

XAMPP - Reported problems with htaccess and file permissions

OSX - I believe everything can be baked right in to OSX but tutorials seem old and are running on something called MacPorts? How has this developed, is it easy to maintain?

    Have i missed anything?

Ah sorry i missed that, let me know how you get on.

I found this for simple installation of PHP5.4

I guess then it's just a case of installing MySQL?

You may find it easier to run a VM with Linux in it.
