Devices that connect to iCloud will be banned in Russia

    According to today's news, Russia will be banning all devices, including iPhone, that connect to iCloud:

    Seems kind of harsh to me. Remains to be seen, what will actually happen, because this really seems a bit too much.

    Necessary to protect their citizens from the USA/NSA.

    Are Google Cloud devices also banned?

    Looks like all cloud services that store data outside of the country are banned.

    Old news really. March this was pushed through and finalised October this year. From the 1st of Jan 2015 and service that stores Russian user data outside the country will be banned.

    I'm sure it was bbc news that spoke to apple and Google and both said they would look at putting local data centres in place
