I thought this would be fixed on iOS 6. Guess not. The space between the split keyboard in some apps like iMessage looks hideous! Devs please submit request of a change. I did already but I'm just one person, the more the better. Here are some example images of what I'm talking about.

    We want this!

Not this hideous space in between!

The "space" you're talking about appears whenever there are additional UI elements attached to the top of the keyboard. My guess is that they did this because they felt it looked more aesthetically pleasing than having the aforementioned attachment stretch across the screen by itself. I'm not sure I would agree, but it would be nice if we could at least interact with items below this grayed out area.

You can just drag it down using the hide keyboard button, or use two fingers to spread the keyboard apart.

He's not asking how to split or recombine the keyboard. Rather he's saying he doesn't like the gray area that sometimes appears between the two halves of the split keyboard:

If you really care about fixing issues in IOS 6, how about actually getting a developer account :D
That way you can report these issues yourself. That's the whole idea.

Hmmm. I think the split version looks way better.

Better submit the 'joined' version as a bug.

    :D
