I am doing the following...

> have my iPad in DFU (not recovery)

> opt click "restore iPad",

>-point iTunes at iPad3,1_6.1.3_10B329_Restore.ipsw

> error: The iPad "iPad" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.

I'm guessing this method no longer works to roll back to 6.1.3 ?
 
That's the other possibility I was afraid of.

I'm trapped at the cosmetic counter forever.

Still working!

I obtained an ipsw file from a different source and iTunes is now preparing to restore to 6.1.3.

They haven't shut the signing off yet.
 
OP was using the wrong image for his hardware. That "not compatible" error tells you that. If Apple stops signing, you get "not eligible" instead.
