    I am doing the following...

    > have my iPad in DFU (not recovery)

    > opt click "restore iPad",

    >-point iTunes at iPad3,1_6.1.3_10B329_Restore.ipsw

    > error: The iPad "iPad" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.

I'm guessing this method no longer works to roll back to 6.1.3 ?

It would seem that Apple is not signing the iOS 6 restores anymore. Bummer!

That's the other possibility I was afraid of.

I'm trapped at the cosmetic counter forever.

    Drab.

    Still working!

I obtained an ipsw file from a different source and iTunes is now preparing to restore to 6.1.3.

They haven't shut the signing off yet.

I have not been able to downgrade. Where did you get the 6.1.3 ipsw ?

You cannot downgrade now. Apple no longer signing iOS 6 anymore. Unless Apple open the window some point in the future

Apple stopped signing 6.1.3 last Friday night.

OP was using the wrong image for his hardware. That "not compatible" error tells you that. If Apple stops signing, you get "not eligible" instead.
