Question,

So I have always struggled to get the iPhone into DFU mode. I have tried 100 times to do the steps:

Volume up
Volume down
Hold side button 10 seconds
Hold volume down 5 seconds
Release side button

But EVERYTIME the logo appears and it just restarted the iphone

Anyone have any tips.

Using MacBook Pro M1
USB C to Lightening

DFU mode can be tricky getting into. The timing with all the buttons has to be PERFECT.

Your "hold side button for 10 seconds" and "hold volume down 5 second" steps are throwing me off a bit, but otherwise sounds about right. For completeness' sake, the steps are below. It also might help to find a YouTube video to watch so you know what to do/expect.

  1. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
  2. Quick-press the Volume Up button
  3. Quick-press the Volume Down button
  4. Hold down the Side button until the screen goes black, then hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button.
  5. After 5 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button.
    • If the Apple logo appears, the Side button was held down for too long.
  6. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode. If open, iTunes will alert you that a device was detected in recovery mode.
    • If your device shows a screen telling you to connect the device to iTunes, retry these steps.

Picked up my 14 Pro Max on Saturday and I can't get this to work either. Works fine on my 13 Pro Max but not the 14. I'm suspecting something has changed but can't find any info.

yes, after 2 weeks I tried DFU to clean the machine, but when I entered DFU, the computer said USB DEBUG,
- Search to reinstall the driver but can't
- It is not clear if apple has not updated the driver for windows or vice versa.

Hi,
I'm on MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.5 and I tried and tried to enter DFU mode on a iPhone 13 Mini and it wouldn't work. So for Step 5 above I held both the power button and the volume down button for a count of 10(approximately 10 seconds) instead of 5 seconds and it went into DFU mode.

Good luck.
