Hi all, i have a problem with my MAC PRO that seems to be getting a little worse.

I get the dreaded black box "You need to retort your computer" when I attempt the following:

    Lengthy Video Conversion
Exporting of multiple images from Lightroom (200+)

I am also getting a strange problem now where the spinning ball comes in whilst using UTorrent.

I have upgraded uTorrent to the latest version and that didn't help.

I have done a little research and it may well be down to my Memory? I looked at the diagnostic and noticed my Riser A Dimm2 has an error.
Have I laid out my memory in the correct manner?

    how do Isolve this problem?

    Thanks again for your help.

If the ECC error is always there, then the stick is bad. Take it out before more problems arise, then replace it.

I switched it to another DIMM and the error message seems to have gone.

I'll try and convert the video again and see if it crashes.

Looks like the reseating of the memory worked. 8 video conversions later and its fine.
I guess it crapped out when there was a problem with the memory.

I can say definitely that the crashes were caused by bad RAM sticks. I had this experience with the 16 GB memory kit from OWC for my 2010 Mac Pro. I had to RMA twice to get the RAM sticks that do not give rise to kernel panics.

You can check the memory using Apple Hardware Test. After you find the faulty stick(s), replace it (them). However, you have to be very careful when choosing ECC RAM sticks since the faulty ones cause kernel panics.

Thanks Pal. I will run hardware test tonight and see what goes down.

    Cheers,
