My primary language is English but very often I have to text to friends in French or Italian and of course from the watch it would be easier to get the right language. Since watchOS 7 the language doesn't reflect the thread language I use on the iPhone as it used to be.
You have to pick the right language before dictating and you think it is going to stick?! No!! each time I have to pick the right language
A pain in the neck. Any idea how to fix it permanently ? On the iPhone it's set to mirror the prefs and there is perfect. Not on the watch

Same here, it’s been a long lasting issue for me. It used to reflect the change of language not anymore but for me even in full Italian conversations it would still be set to English so every time it had to be changed manually.

another mess that probably will never be fixed

Thanks for adding your voices to this issue. I'm sure there are not too many users using several languages but it's an annoying issue!

I know it's possibly a long shot, but have you left feedback?
It's worth at least trying.

I haven't used dictation with anything except my default language. However, you bring up an interesting point. One would expect err hope dictation works similar to the keyboard autocorrect system. That is, it checks against all enabled keyboards. For example, I have English, Emoji, and the three Spanish keyboards enabled on my iPhone. When I type, I can enter English or Spanish, even mixed within the same message, and iOS will correct words according to the recognized language. Of course, it isn't perfect, but not obnoxiously bad or anything of that level.

It's a similar problem to scribble on the iPad, it doesn't matter what language you have selected in the keyboard, scribble will default to English.

I tried. But they don’t read the bug reports so I quit submitting a while ago.
I’ve been reporting bugs for years and they are still all there.

example: sending a long voice message will result in the screen of the iPhone to go in standby and the message gets lost. If you touch the screen to prevent the sleep it stops recording and you lose the message.

Sending a long voice message with Apple Watch will result in the watch trying to transcribe the message and then getting stuck because you maybe are using slang/dialectical words and you can’t force it to send as a voice message until it is fully transcribed.

Continuity/handoff issues on my Mac

Issues with mail

the list is too long.. multi year bugs.
But we get emoji updates every month, that’s all it matters apparently...

Very sad: our world is aiming to emojis and thinner devices. 😟

Update: now when I dictate, after choosing a different language, it goes back to English even if the language has been selected differently.
I restarted the watch and for one text was ok, but the second one went back to English again!!
Multi language disappointment 🤬

Updated: if I open the message app on the watch and answer from there, after selecting the right language , it works
It doesn't if I reply on the spot when I get a text. More convoluted but for now is my only option
