Dictation not working

I'm trying to post this message using Dictation. It seems to be working fine. In your video that you posted earlier I did not hear you speak.

I am having this issue on Mac OS 10.8.5 It used to work and I changed nothing.

It also works on Mom's iMac as she is blind and that is how she sends email.

I've got no virus software, no other apps open and have tried resetting the prefs and deleteing the .plist

What else could be stopping it?
