I've been using CarPlay via USB/Lightning cable for years in my car, but since 14.5 it has been extremely buggy. I sometimes get a black screen on my headunit, I've had the song skip cycling like crazy for no apparent reason, and even though Siri can miraculously understand me, phone calls sometimes on the other end are not hearing me.

Anyone else have bugs with CarPlay on 14.5?

14.5 working fine here on 17 Chevy Malibu and 21 Subaru Outback. Also working fine with 14.6 B2 on same vehicles.

I’ve been having trouble with CarPlay on iPhone 12 mini and my Pioneer AppRadio 4. Much more frequent crashes.

It could be in my head, but keeping the phone cool seems to help. It gets warm in the case… Taking it out and chilling it on the AC seems to make it much more stable. I wonder if iOS is now killing processes more aggressively when the iPhone starts to get warm?

So far ok with today 14.5.1 release, but only about 10 min used.

I just recently drove 2500 miles or so over the last week and a half. I used CarPlay continuously for the first 1100 and had no issues. I updated to 14.5 just before I started the drive back and had a ton of issues. This was all done on a 2018 Ford Fusion with SYNC 3 (I think SYNC 3, honestly I've given up figuring out the radio. I just know CarPlay works and I rely on that almost entirely).

  • Apple Maps was crashing whenever I swap between a phone call and Maps. This happened at least three to four times in each state.
  • I once lost the clock on CarPlay but still had the signal strength. I had to unplug and replug in the phone.
  • After hanging up from a call, I couldn't resume an audiobook from the Books app. It just refused to play. CarPlay would come up with a half-loaded Books screen and anytime I hit the "play" button on my phone it wouldn't even attempt to play it. I could swap between different sections of the app, but just couldn't play anything.
  • A couple times it had trouble dialing out that wasn't related to signal strength. I'd place a call from the head unit but nothing would happen on my phone. Had to unplug then replug it in.
  • The phone app on CarPlay would always show a red dot notification but I had no red not notification on my phone. It disappeared after I stopped for gas.
  • Twice, during the drive, Apple Maps just went to a straight black screen for no reason, then would eventually crash after a few seconds and reload the route.

Honestly, the biggest issue was Apple Maps' random crashing. I thought I'd found the pattern--switching from any app back to the navigation/Apple Maps app would crash it and cause it to reload.

I did find reports of people complaining about the 14.5 Beta having broken CarPlay for some units, though I didn't look too much into it (Hotel Wifi has been terrible this entire trip, I can't wait for more widespread 5G) and I fell asleep mid-read.

Use it pretty much daily especially during the week commuting to work. Had no issues other than routing with Apple Maps can sometimes crash if you go to another app then go back to Apple Maps but i've seen this issue on and off since the iOS14 betas.

2019 Altima - one issue so far and it’s constant.

No CarPlay at all.

ill plug my phone in and it will charge but that’s it. Tried forgetting the car in CarPlay settings, reset the phone, etc. nothing.
Frustrating for sure.

I didn't think that this could be related to the update but in my 2019 CR-V, I had to reboot the display a few times last week when the display went black. Got a 2019 Accord last night and CarPlay seems to be working in it so far with no problems.

I have an XS Max.

Check for infotainment firmware updates. I had an update the other day for my newer model.

I will. I know my accord tells me there’s a new update every time I start it, I just keep forgetting to run the update. Haven’t checked the CR-V.

I didn't add in my initial post, but my car is a 2020 CR-V that had the problems.

OK again today so far after the 14.5.1 update.

I've been having issues with Carplay ever since IOS 14 came out. I use a Honda, and evidently Apple and Honda aren't necessarily getting along.

I'll check on mine later this week but my Accord updated just now. I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

2020 Civic SI here and Carplay has been crap on iOS 14. I don't use maps enough to notice any issues with that, but it randomly disconnects all the time and won't detect the phone until I reboot the head unit. It switches to tinny navigation audio in the middle of podcasts/music and sometimes pauses the audio for no reason. This happens with all 3 of my phones so it's not just one phone. I can't find any way to check for a system update and too many car functions depend on the head unit so I can't swap it for an aftermarket either. I really miss analog cars where everything didn't depend on a stupid ancient android 4.0 "infotainment system".

I have a 2019 Honda Civic and carplay won't connect since downloading 14.6. Android Auto works so I know it's not the port. Any solutions?

its depends on the year for Accords at least - my 2017 hasnt had an update in years and there is no OTA updates. Honda needs an update bad since its common this unit constantly crashes with carplay since ios 14.

You are right. I just looked at Honda's website Firmware Updates and it doesn't even go back to 2017. Is there a way to reach out to Honda support to report your issue?

Yes there is, call 888-528-7876

I kept telling the reps it's a wide spread issue and they said you'll have to bring it to a dealer. So I created a thread on reddit "2016 2017 Honda Accord Carplay Issues" to get more people to call in lol

Good luck and let me know if anything helps with the issue!

I'm trying not to bring it into the dealer because they charge quite a bit just to look at the thing. I'm starting to think as technology grows, the older cars are going to be even more out of date. When I rely on Apple's navigation system to get where I'm going, to not have it work is a really bad thing.
