What do you think of the Dell SP2309W 23" Flat Panel Widescreen Monitor with WebCam? It is only $300, seems to good to be true. Is it a good monitor, in the same league as the HP LP2475w or the Apple 24" LED display?
Sorry, but no The monitor is TN; good for gaming and etc, but at the same time lacks the ability to display full 8-bit colour nativly. The HP and Apple are IPS panels, which can. However, don't let me dissuade you - the SP2309W is fine for everyday use. Its just not recommended for any colour-correction or colour-work.
Wow, 30" and it needs two DVI connections to power it! Right now, I think 24" is big, 30" is huge! Gaming on a 30" would be interesting. And I see going to 30" a jump in price
It's not two separate DVI connections it needs, but rather a dual-link capable DVI connection. Dual-link DVI ports and cables have an additional set of data leads for driving higher-resolution displays (in practice, anything higher than 1920x1200 resolution).
Most modern graphics cards have two dual-link DVI ports.
The "specialist" was very creative with the word better. Minidisplay port is better b\c it can display a higher resolution over single link dvi while keeping the port smaller than a standard USB port. But, dvi can still display 1920x1200 just fine, which is the resolution YOU want, so the point is entirely moot. Also, the ONLY monitor in existence at the moment that supports minidisplay port is that apple 24" monitor...so you're very limited when it comes to options. Push come to shove, I'd take a dvi monitor over a minidisplay port monitor. Look at newegg under 24" monitors and arrange by highest rating. Pick the one that looks the best.
