I started at 8:05 when I got the text, I ended up getting two upgrade codes - but nothing - it kept spitting me back to the O2 main page, what a mess that was. Oh well, they didn't have white ones anyway - so I'll wait.

I was livid, i tired all day with no luck and then nearly killed someone when the "Come Back On The 10th July For More Information" showed up.

Edit: I got my txt from o2 at 7:50

About the same here - got loads of codes but never succeeded

Cheers
Bryan

this is all very odd.

As I say above, I have mine all confirmed.
I actually woke up at 11:30am today (day off) and didn't even start trying to pre-order till I checked my email at 11:45.

so those that started and persevered from 8am must have had really bad issues.
as I said I counted and I had 27 upgrade codes sent to me...maybe ya'll shoulda used multiple browsers?

maybe I was just lucky
though after today I'm still not sure they'll deliver the damn thing.

Yes, I was sitting in front of my computer when the text came in & managed to order it.

They said it is being delivered tomorrow, but I think they mean Friday??

Watch this space!

I didnt get one! Was trying from 8am and got close (too close haha) several times but it always crashed!

Though it looks like it might have been for the best as now i can get it myself from a store and not wait around for a delivery!

Still Poor show O2

Didn't manage it and have now decided to see out the rest of my contract on my iPhone 1st Gen and re-assess then.
I wasn't massively excited about the 3G anyway because it offered very little over and above my existing 16Gb iPhone , and only decided to upgrade because it was so cheap and thought it would be painlessly done online. Now that's not been the case I'll revert back to my original position of not being that bothered by the 3G. If Apple bring out a 32Gb I'll consider upgrading, otherwise I'll wait and see what happens next year...

Wow. I had been jealous the UK customers would get to pre-order, but it seems to have been a huge disaster, huh? How frustrating.

I'm now having the very same thought.

right well after having a caht with sombody from o2 CS (who was actually helpful if you could believe it) and he said 2 things.

1) o2 will probably do somthing about all the people that fell foul from the complete cock up today!

2) white iphones in 2-3 weeks! but will have to check the website

so im pissed still but i will be getting my white one at least!

Simon

I do still think we need to sign a petition or somthing and send it in to show how majorly they have upset people!

P.S i was calm and didnt shout at all

I sent an email to the CEO of o2 complaining.

I suggest you all doing the same if your unhappy and make sure you put a contact mobile number so they can phone you back!

matthew.key@o2.com

I am glad however that we are now allowed to upgrade in stores on Friday (assuming they have stock of what we want!) now that o2 changed their policy on upgrades.

I was in my local o2 store and they showed me a memo they were sent today saying that 2G iphone customers can upgrade on friday in store when before specifically it was not allowed.

Like I said before its good we can still get the phone on friday now but a pain that having spend 7 hours constantly refreshing o2's site that I now have to queue at 7/8 on Friday as well!

I want to see this on the O2 website before going on friday.
As most of you i'm hugely pissed off by O2 as their process didn't work smoothly at all, shame on you O2 !

Got my text at 8:02 AM today, tried a couple times, got through to the page where you put your details in, never got any further though.

Not too worried about not getting through, the hype will die down within a week or two like the other iPhone.

Happy to be able to upgrade in store though. Any ID required when upgrading in store ?

I managed to get one, was trying all morning and then must have got lucky as it went straight through after the site came back up again around 11.15am

You guys broke it with all of your refreshing.

It was broken from the start. I tried upgrading from around 8 - 8.30am and the pages wouldn't load properly then. People only refreshed because it was overloaded and pages didn't finish loading.

I think what made things even worse is that if you got part way through (eg. entered phone number, got code via SMS, entered code, etc, then it hung) you had to start all over again. If they allowed people to skip the part to request the code then more people might have managed to complete the process.

From what I saw it went in cycles - about 30 seconds of working, followed by about 2 minutes of being completely down (or sending you to the failover forms). There just wasn't time to go through all of the steps before it crashed again - especially when things got really slow.

Thought I'd posted to this thread yesterday, but with all the thread merges it looks as if it was on another... But:

I'm an existing iPhone user - have been since Nov 9th last year. I pre-reg'd on the O2 site, and then yesterday morning I recieved the text saying that upgrade site was up.

Here's the sequence of events:

07:59 - recieved upgrade sms
08:00 - 08:15ish - spent F5'ing the upgrade holding page
08:15 - 08:16ish - spent filling in the initial form
08:17 - recieved upgrade code
08:17 - 08:20ish - spent filling in the rest of the order, giving credit card & getting onscreen confirmation
08:22 - email confirmation recieved

The email was:

o2 email said:
Dear Mr Jason Cundall,

Thanks for your update order. We're currently processing your request and will update you shortly on its progress.

Your order number is: on-0200016xx

The rest of the email just gives the rest of the order details (16Gb Black iPhone 3G)

The order also shows up on my o2 as in progress - but I haven't had any other emails from o2, like some of you have.
