Invest $130 with a high probability of getting at most $100 back in a year makes sense because...?

Agreed, why spend a 130 bucks to get back 100?

Personally, I buy a device that fits my needs not for selling it down the road.

The GSM 3G ipad 2s are the most sought after configuration. Fact.

That is because of users in other countries. People in other countries are also paying crazy prices to get the latest iPad. Not sure why those same people would opt for the older model when the next model comes out.

Sorry as others have said you must have failed basic economics. This plan makes no sense.

Look up time value of money and consider decline of 3G technology.

Purchasing a 3G version of any ipad model solely for resale value is a fools errand. Besides beating a dead horse I would say purchasing a 3G version does have its merits under certain conditions. If you need 3G now it of course makes sense. However most speculation has been on short term resale value of 6-12 months.

However If you intend to keep your ipad 2 for the (long run) 3G may be worth it. Perhaps in another 1-3 years (long run) you will find need for 3G and it will be worth it for you. Perhaps in 1-3 years all ipads and other tablet devices will have 3G or LTE as a standard feature. Perhaps the price of 3G service will drop substantially over the next 1-3 years. It is feasible that within the next couple years the price of 3G may drop to $10 or less for monthly capped plans and maybe even under $25 for unlimited monthly. If that happens wireless data plans will be so cheap that it will become a commodity that most could not do without. At that point in time most people will NOT want a WiFI only ipad and they maybe willing to pay the difference spent to recoup your investment.

This is based on a lot of contingent factors and of course you probably still won't recoup your $130+ investment but I can see you using it and maybe someone willing to pay an extra $100 if the above scenario unfolds.

I did for the iPad1.

In the end, I have never used the 3g because I have unlimited iphone. I could have gotten the unlimited iPad, but at $30 a month (use it or not) it seemed a waste. I doubt 3g adds $130 to the resale.

MyWi works fine, I added a juice pack air to my phone to extend the browsing time.

No, I didn't buy my AT&T 3G for a possible future resale. I bought it mainly for the GPS and for use when traveling overseas. Now, if it would just hurry and get here. I've been waiting since ordering on March 12. Orders placed two weeks ago on launch day the 11th are still being filled. Hopefully it won't take another two weeks to fill March 12 orders.

Nope. Not something I considered at all.

I found the original iPad a very useful device and felt restricted to home use only due to it being WiFi only.

This time around I wanted to get as much use out of the iPad 2 as possible and for me that meant the inclusion of 3G was a necessity.

If it helps sell it later so be it, but honestly I think ones with 3G will be no more, if not less desirable than WiFi only.
