Not a fan of the Ultra design. If they slim it down to look more like the regular watch, I will be all over that though. Proud s8 Midnight Aluminum owner here. I end up with about 55% battery life left at the end of the day and that is good enough for me.

My possible interest in Apple Watch Ultra waned when I did a side-by-side comparison between Series 7/8 45mm to Ultra's 49mm's screen. They are practically the same!

Yep. Love the look of the Ultra, looks like a great watch. I'm just not that interested in spending that much money on a smartwatch.

Its not much more than a SS AW8. I am concerned that it will get a lot more banged up though because of how huge it is and the Ti edge around the glass.

If I was in the market for SS, then I'd take the Ultra over the SS. Comparatively I think it's great value.

I agree with you that comparatively it is better value than the SS. However it is huge and I am worried that it will get very banged up very quickly. My SS S3 still looks perfect after 5 years.

True. But if you really look at the differences between Ultra and SS, main differences that stick out are:
  • Activity button
  • Dual frequency GPS
  • Longer battery life
Activity oriented features I probably will never get to utilize are:
  • 2000 nits brightness, as 1000 nits is plenty bright and my watch's brightness is set to the 2nd (middle) position
  • Better water proofing and diving capability
  • Depth gauge and water temperature sensor (I swim and snorkel, but at the surface level)
  • Emergency siren
If Apple can bring the action button and dual frequency GPS to Apple Watch Series 9, and some increase in battery life (S9 finally adopting the newer efficiency cores and smaller fab should add at least few more hours), I frankly wouldn't benefit much from Ultra.

Yeah, I'm not finding the Ultra very compelling. I like the compactness and light weight and cost of the aluminum AW, and I don't like the reflectivity of sapphire. For my activities, a doubtful benefit (mountain biking, diving, sailboat racing). Am going to sit it out for a while until we get reports from actual activity users that are not Apple Watch fans.

I went with the Ultra, which unfortunately won’t be here for another month(ish). My wife went for the graphite SS AW8 and she’s enjoying it now.

Also, Ultra for me when I say there was no DLC coated titanium edition available. I knew the Ultra was my choice and I always have my current series 7 SBTi to fall back on.

Yes! I'm a small watch person and the Ultra is for explorers or people who want to look like one. I got the S8 in silver with a midnight braided solo loop band. I hope it looks as good as the pictures when it arrives.

I went for the Graphite Stainless Steel Series 8 and I'm really happy with it so far. I think the Ultra looks amazing, I just think it will be less versatile with matching all the different types of bands (formal, sporty, etc.) and would be a little too thick on my wrist. If the screen size was significantly larger on the Ultra I may have gone for it, but I also really like how compact and sleek the curved edges and smaller casing of the 45mm look in comparison to the larger, chunkier Ultra.

Coming from a S3, the larger, improved display on the S8 plus the better battery life make this one I'll keep for years. The Ultra looked too big and was pure overkill IMO.

yep! i don't do extreme sports. and more important.... the ultra would be way too big on my tiny wrist!

add to it the number of bands I already have for my smaller version regular apple watch....

the fitness app on the regular watch is just fine for me! i can charge during the day and switch out to one of my old AW4's while it's charging...

and i don't care for the goldfish color of the ultra.

The orange is the ugliest part of the ultra IMO.

the AW series 8 stainless steel with a proper band the same price as the AW ultra
So people will chose the more fashion device or the more practical device, otherwise the most bought will be the aluminium case AW8 for the price
