Does this really matter to us everyday Joes'??
[doublepost=1477913764][/doublepost]

All about profits, my man. Gotta keep the stockholders happy!
The average 'Joe' usually isn't dropping over $2500+ on a laptop after taxes. Also, even 'average joe' is getting stiffed on weaker gpu performance while on battery power. 2016 rMBP buyers are buying the same cpu as $1000 Dells. In the prior 2013/2014/2015 rMBP 15, you were getting a better CPU/iGPU than Dell/HP quad-core i7 laptops regardless if you got the dGPU model or not, giving you better performance while on battery. Apple has slapped the cheaper skylake which is giving about 40% less iGPU performance while on battery vs the previous Haswell based generation.

Does Apple buy off the shelf chips from Intel or are they customized somewhat?

And how do we know the dGPU isn't good when on battery? Isn't it much more efficient than before?

This was the most easily noticable thing - it's why we can't have a non-dGPU version of the 15", which was my first choice of a machine.

Now tempted for the 13", but feels so expensive for a dual core.

they cheaped out on the CPUs

they used 15w CPUs on base rMBPs, 15w opposed to 28w before

they didn't include the extension cord

they didn't include at least an adapter (even a video out adapter)

they removed the glowing apple logo

they didn't include the touch id on the base rMBPs

but they increased the price, there's that
they increased the price because the last gen has 128 ssd and the base new one has 256

if they just increased the price, it would just be 100 usd right? 1399 - 1499 but in my country it's 300-400 usd

they also used a cheaper processor

Depends on the model, but it seems likely that the CPUs in the new 15" rMBPs (with the touchbar thing) are custom versions. As far as I know, no current Skylake CPUs in the same TDP range support LPDDR3-2133 RAM, but the new MBP comes with one of this type. Since DDR3 generally has shorter latency than DDR4 at the same frequency, theoretically we get faster memory than standard Skylake CPUs can support. I don't know how much it compensates the lack of L4 cache (i.e., eDRAM) though.

I'm surprised that no one has really brought up that Apple is giving us the '20HQ' series of Skylake and not the '70HQ' version that just came out this year? OTOH the 20HQ series is the mainstream one that PC users have had since last fall... Many defenders here have stated Apple's reason for such a long delay is that they were waiting for the Iris Pro version of Quad core skylake to show up. With the previous versions of the rMBP 15 we always got the highest end iGPU in our rMBP's. Now we're getting the low end 530... So for the higher price of the new series we're also giving up the eDram that was present on the 2015 rMBP 15 regardless if you got the dGPU or not...

OP what is the full model number in the new MBPs - I can't find that info anywhere

Is it possible that Apple is going to use the 6770 as part of their yearly upgrade cycle? We know that there won't be Kaby Lakes suitable for the 15, so is it possible that Apple may be using this as an upgrade bit for their processors? That would also give Intel time to produce a sizable enough yield.

Check out the 25% smaller battery on the rMBP 15 also. If Ive and Co. wasn't so obsessed with thinness 12 hour battery life would've been possible on the rMBP 15! I'm waiting to see what the 2016 rMBP does vs the 2015 when the CPU is running full tilt. My bet is that the battery life is shorter than the older model...

Remember when they included a remote control with your macs and a docking station for your ipod?
