iPad Did anyone else opt to get an iPad with less storage this time around?

When all other tablet Mfg.s have Micro Memory slots in their tablet, why does Apple not? Is it because they make a lot of money selling the memory that must be bought installed with your iPhone or iPads?

You could try to ask a question that hasn't already been asked rhetorically 1000 other times over the past eight years. Not contributing a lot here that hasn't been discussed to death already in other threads or on gems like reddit.

I am always happy to keep bringing up this fact, as people are still being shafted by Apple, with the cost of their installed memory, and i feel i am contributing by keep bringing the fact up.

My 10.5 iPad was 256GB; the 12.9 I bought to replace it is 64GB as I was only using 25GB of storage on the 10.5. I also have the 200GB iCloud storage plan.

Did the same and also use the 200gb iCloud and so far not missing the 256GB iPad.

Right, you're the savior that comes around to remind us how overpriced that one specific aspect of the product is, and also feel the need to remind all of us that we still don't have an SD card slot after eight years of not having one.

It's a distraction and doesn't contribute to the current thread discussion which asked if people downsized their storage because they felt like they didn't need enough. How does whining about not having an SD Card on an iPad help in this specific forum thread? It doesn't.

Regardless, actually addressing the OP's question. I haven't purchased the new iPad pro yet but when I do I plan on purchasing the 1TB version (in Wifi only) I am rarely ever anywhere where there isn't wireless access and I always get the most memory available on my iOS devices out of fear of running out. Can't add memory after the fact line of thinking. The 6 gig of ram on the 1TB version really just solidified my decision.

Oddly no. With USB C I was afraid I would be using my cameras with it far more often for photo editing. So far this is true.

I don't consider resale value when determining what storage option to select - I base my choice on what I believe I will need to make the device useful for me. I travel a lot to areas with poor or no Internet connectivity so I do not depend on cloud storage availability so I go with larger storage options.

I got 512gb so I could fill it with the entire 9 series of The Office US at 187gb (as well as some films, all the apps I could ever need and still use it for photo/video editing). As my work laptop only has 128gb and my iPhone X 64gb I felt it was worthwhile.

Plus I plan on keeping this for a few years.

I switched from a 64 GB iPad 2 to a 32 GB iPad 2017. I am not a gamer and do not need a lot of storage for daily needs but I do like to have a good selection of movies, TV shows and music for road trips, flights and in hotel rooms. Also, every night I like to backup photos I have taken that day. So I was a little concerned about storage.

I dealt with this by purchasing a Ravpower Filehub. Not only does it provide a means of charging the iPad but I can attach a USB thumbdrive or portable HD that I use for movies etc and nightly backups. The Filehub will simultaneously stream moves etc to my iPad and to my grandkids iPads from the USB drive. Also I can transfer images from an SD card to the drive.

In a way this gives me unlimited storage.

I have a 10.5 256 LTE Pro (Which I am going to keep) and a 512 gb second gen 12.9 pro ( I am selling it). I noticed on both of my devices I have used maybe 20 gigs of space. I have the 200gb iCloud plan. It's not like I was trying not to download stuff on my iPad's as I have plenty of room, I am just not much of a gamer and have Unlimited data so I stream a lot. I only had 54 gb of space taken up on my 512gb XS max and I download music to the phone for when I am in bad service areas.

Anyway, this time around I picked up a 11" LTE 256 gb similar to my pro, but this time I picked up the 64gb 12.9 LTE. This was the only model Verizon had available and so I made a judgment call based on my usage to give it a shot though I'm a little nervous. I am saving money this way though. I also have a 12" 2017 256 gb Macbook, and a 2018 512gb Pro. Did anyone else do this? Does the 200gb of iCloud make a big difference?

Personally, I find the 256Gb a great size, but I think I could totally make it work with less. However, that is for my needs. I use it for illustration, which doesn't take that much space - and the biggest consumers of Gb are the comics and magazines. I think I had roughly 30Gb of comics on my previous iPad.

I have, I’ve opted for just 64GB this time around. Down from 256GB in my previous Pro.

I’ve noticed over the last couple of years my reliance on local storage constantly diminishing. To the point where I’ve barely hit 40GB at most.

So it seemed pointless in me buying more than I need. Instead I spent the money on a cellular model as I’m using more and more cloud storage and services it made more sense for me.

That of course is just me, it will most certainly not apply to everyone.

You aren’t kidding. Just sold my 512 second gen 12.9 and was not happy about what I ended up selling it for. You usually take a huge hit with large storage models.

This may be true.. I sometimes find the models that are less popular now are more in demand 1-2 years down the road. When I got my 256 gen 1 IPP 12.9 I thought I would never use all my storage... ended up getting a 512 this time (lots of photo, video, and music editing).

Point being, if everyone is reselling 256 models in a year and the 512 is harder to find... you may get more out of it. Supply and demand. Etc etc.

I went with the 256gb, I had 128gb in my previous pro and felt that was perfect so since I didn’t want to go down to the 64gb I instead moved up to the 256gb which will probably end up being to much but that’s okay. I’m not super concerned about resale value since normally I pass my old iPads down to someone else in my family (and then they pass it down, etc.) so I know we will get plenty of use out of the iPad and in the long run the bump up in storage will be good.

Aevan - When Apple advertises the iPad Pro as a computer, and it lacks many key features of a computer, I classify that as limited.

There would be no forum if users could not post honest feedback and opinions, so my posts are extremely relevant. I am sure my posts, just like many others here on the Mac Rumors Forum have benefited the community by providing honest and open information that allows users to make appropriate purchasing and selling decisions.

OP already decided that they want an iPad Pro and were deciding on the size of the internal memory. They did not ask whether you find it lacks key features of a computer, obviously they find it adequate for their needs. This is why I said your post was irrelevant to the OP's question. So, your comment did not help the OP make an appropriate purchasing decision, because it did not address the dilemma in question, but instead just presented your view of the iPad itself.

Basically, they asked: which size do I get, to which you replied: I didn’t buy it, it’s overpriced.

Also, every computer has some limitations, it is up to the users to choose which ones they live with, and which ones they can't accept.
