So I update my iPhone to 4.2 last night, everything seemed to have gone fine, then updated my iPad to 4.2 when it got completely bricked. After messing with it for three hours I threw in the towel and went to bed.

In the morning I scheduled an appointment with the genius to get my iPad fixed before I went home for thanksgiving. When I got in my car I plugged my iPhone into my Alpine iDA-X001 stereo receiver like usual… then after a minute of searching for iPod I got an error…

So I said, okay let me just restart both the phone and receiver, that usually fixes any problems. Same thing. So I drove to the Apple store listening to *gasp* the radio… (seriously, how the hell do people listen to Kesha?)

Anyway, the Apple genius did exactly what I did to my iPad and just gave up and gave me a replacement… a bit of an inconvenience, but whatever… it was taken care of…

I get back and google "ida-x001 4.2" and sure enough 4.2 doesn't work on my $400 receiver.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point of the "made for iPod" program, so that everything will be assured to work together? yes.

ugh, I'm so frustrated with 4.2 right now.

(and yes, I'm aware 4.2 didn't ship without QA testing, it's just ridiculous I'm having so many issues with it)

It was like that for me for the 4.1 update, but 4.2.1 fixed it completely for my Pioneer AVH p4100. :D

What a drama queen

Why would you obvioulsy title your thread knowing damn well that they test out every os release ?

why not label it " ios 4.2 issues with iDA-X001 " or something completely relevant ?

btw Ipod =/= Iphone compatible, Some ipod products work with the iphone, but its not like they claim full compatibility

Why would any company be 100% responsible for future compatibility ?

But ok lets avoid all those facts... did you even read your user manual ?

The iDA-X001 is compatible with the following iPod models:

* USB Connection:
o 5th generation iPod
o 1st generation iPod nano
o 2nd generation iPod nano
o iPod classic
* Full Speed Cable Connection:
o 4th generation iPod
o 5th generation iPod
o iPod photo
o iPod mini
o 1st generation iPod nano
o 2nd generation iPod nano
o iPod classic

Question: Did Apple not do QA tests on 4.2?

Answer: Yes, Apple did test 4.2.1.

On another note. My $35 GM factory stereo works great with my iPhone 4 via bluetooth and USB.

$400 Alpine (I"m sure its great)
-$35 GM factory POS
-----------------
$365 saved for use in buying beer, women, etc. Plus a working iphone with built in stereo.

I did have issues with 4.0. But found that I could get it to work after I restore my phone as new. And then add the playlists, etc. after that. Give that the ol' college try. See what swings. :apple:

My 3G hasn't worked on my Sony CD player since the update to 4.1 or 4.2.1

I went to the Apple store, and the guy there had no clue why it didn't work, but his i4 with 4.1 at the time would work. It's not the iOS on my stereo, it's the iOS coupled with the phone it is on.

Obviously you do not have a developers license and have not seen what has transpired over the course of the 4.2 beta releases. Quite honestly to be truthful the 4.2 beta release were a frigging nightmare and nothing but problematic..in short a full blown hurried out the door joke each and every one of them, especially the iphone 4 betas! I myself mad a blatent point and post saying Apple was more concerned with keeping their public iOS 4.2 release date in lieu of a Quality iOS 4.2 release to the public. they kicked out 4.2.1 only because the developers all were bitching, myself included that 4.2GM was utter rubbish and we needed atleast another beta possibly 2 more before it had the kinks worked out! Funny how they released 4.2.1 GM iteration which was out for all of 2-3 days before you people had the public release....why did they even bother? Like I said originally APPLE was and is more concerned with keeping with the Media Announced release date above and beyond anything else!

Still think iOS 4.2.1 was fully scrutinized by APPLE before public release...think again.

Boy I tell you people can just be led around by the noses blindly anymore and just because its from Apple they think its the epitome of anything and everything...Just because Apple says so how naive can you be bro?

cool so what does any of that have to do with the fact that specific deck isn't iPhone compatible.

this would be a different story if the iPhone was listed as a supported model, but it's not

IPhones sometimes refuse to work with iPod products due to the lack of an encryption chip

perhaps 4.2 is just more stringent, but whatever the case is, that deck was never originally intended to support the iPhone

awesome you posted an a different model number that supports the iPhone. Were you trying to prove a pertinent point ?

what does that have to do with the deck (iDA-X001) that the OP is having problems with ?

With all the posts about similar issues being fixed with 4.2 I have low hopes this will be fixed in an upcoming update.

To the troll above, if you learn a little about software it will help you when trying to argue "regression" vs "incompatibility" in either case a tad bit of sarcasm was also lost in your comprehension of the original post, and the fact that this isn't the only issue I've had to deal with.

And to the other troll with the nice stock receiver… my stock receiver doesn't have bluetooth or aux in…. so that isn't an option, otherwise the likelihood that I would have bought this Alpine in the first place is slim.
