I tried to install 5.1 on my S2 and it did not work. I then rebooted both devices and know I cannot even get 5.1 from the update server to install.

Yes. I saw it earlier but ignored it . Now there’s an article about it in the verge. It’s bricking some watches

Unfortunately there's not much you can do but wait for a solution from Apple. Perhaps they will have a software solution tomorrow. Otherwise it will probably be an exchange. On the forum thread related to the article about 5.1 bricking watches someone posted a way to get the watch to turn off so you might want take a look and it least it won't keep the apple logo on the screen.

This is what I’m getting, on my S2.

And my internet connection is fine.

It bricked my watch. It’s stuck on the Apple logo. What do I do??

You will have to contact Apple directly, there is nothing you can do on your end. You Will have to ship your watch to them, which they either will re-boot for you or send you a replacement.

Gosh, it's not just me then. I've been living dangerously on the betas so am on 5.1(16R5589c) and check for updates has either been saying I'm on the latest, or more often, that it couldn't connect/no internet connection. I have removed the beta profile. Looks like a good reason then

I checked first thing and presumed the final build had the same number as the last beta as I didn't see an update. Same thing on iOS 12.1 too actually.

In the other forum, most are contacting Apple for replacement. Apparently, there's nothing that you as a consumer can do. Some are getting on the spot replacement from Apple at the Apple Store, others are having to send their watch in, but you can get a replacement without question. Even after the 14 day period, some are saying.

I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. Walk in wait was over an hour today. No thanks. This entire thing is so incredibly frustrating. 100% apples fault.

Call AppleCare, going to the store won't help you. They don't do watch replacements in store. You either need to mail it in, or they will express replacement, but calling AppleCare is faster than going to the store to get the same answer.

I also have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. Series 4 LTE damaged during 5.1 update. Apple Care told me that in store replacement is doubtful.

They do not do in-store replacement for Apple Watches. They will take it from you and ship it in to the repair center. It's easier to just set it up with AppleCare or ask for an Express Replacement.

An issue I've seen is that with the 5.1 update on a series 4, it will charge once. Then after that I have to do a hard restart to get it to charge again - same on three different charging cables and three different wall chargers. I am considering resetting and repairing. Anyone else seeing that?
