I'm ready to go to an apple store to turn in my 3g(bad battery after 17 months) under applecare extended warranty.

I've heard some people have received replacement 3gs. Should I wait a couple of more months until 3g stocks are depleted to increase chance of 3gs replacement? I don't want to get an old refurbished 3g. I've been on the $119 service plan for 17 months if that makes a difference.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My friend had his iPhone 3G replaced with the 3GS back in the summer, around August.

But that was because he had a ton of problems with it, and had about 10 replacements (he was like one of the many idiots who complain about small things like cracks, etc).

He ended up emailing Steve Jobs and got a call the next day from Apple and they asked him to send his 3G back. He got the 3GS less than a week later.

upgrade to a 3GS or wait to upgrade in July to the next gen iPhone, no need to be so cheap. Also don't waste your money on Applecare extended warranty

I had a 3G after 8 replacements due to dead wifi, uneven glass, croocked power bottons, it got replaced. These SMALL defects shouldn't exist in a phone that I paid $599 for.

The replacements are always refurbs. Even if you got a 3GS. However, they're well stocked with refurbs of 3g's and 3gs'. It's how they make money on replacements for when you damage your phone instead of it just failing. Just bank on getting a 3g refurb. If you get lucky and get a 3gs, well icing on the cake.

I guess his not an idiot after all. :p

The apple site only has the 3g 8gb for sale. I have the 16gb.

Its not happening.
You will get a 3G. They will not upgrade you to a 3GS.
They still sell 3G models so if there isnt any refurbs they will give you a new iphone 3G.

Apple site and retail Apple stores stock are different.
Just bring it in and see what happens.

They actually give you factory refurbs, not new retail units. They'll likely give you a refurbished 16GB, since they do have the capability to replace old iPhone 2Gs just fine...

I wonder if i went to exchange my 3G which has buttons in to much, if i can upgrade to a 16GB for an additional fee?

No. The replacement iPhone will be the same make and model. iPhone 3G 8Gb Black will be replaced with iPhone 3G 8Gb Black. They don't allow or offer upgrades even if you offer to pay the difference. The Original iPhone 8GB still can be replaced. You can get an Original iPhone 8Gb replaced with another Original iPhone 8GB.

Yeah I've been here done that,

I had an iPhone 2g (4gb) with a blown speaker, And they had discontinued the 4gb model for quite some time. I was hoping I would get a 8gb replacement. LOL nope.

Apple seems to have a limitless supply of refurbs?
