Yes, please describe more. Are you talking about the 15" unibody 1 gen vs 15" unibody 2 gen? I think that the screen is probably more vibrant as well. Esp noticeable when watching video on hulu. I think it might not just be the maker of the LCD or the glass or a calibration thing. I think the colors are inherently more vibrant.

You think the Gen2 has a better more vibrant screen than the Gen1 version??
I have both and FOR SURE the screen on the Gen 2 is not as vibrant..

I totally agree, but this update has many features that are superior to the previous model IMHO.

It will also hold it's value better on the second-hand market.

I agree with you, to be hones, I had the older version from Feb 09--and there is NO comparison to this Gen2 version. The batter life is unbelievable! to me that is worth it alone, but again thats just me. Also i have 2 extra GB and more RAM. I need the SD slot. BUT the screen colors are NOT as good on this GEN2 model as the GEN1 (Feb 09').
Just my two cents!

I picked up a 2.8GHz today and the screen is a 9CA3 also. It is a different display than before. A larger gamut doesn't necessarily show brighter colors, but allows a broader range of colors. I can't really tell yet but I will do a color calibration tonight and from that data I should be able to tell if it looks like a better gamut.

Can someone please tell me how to do a color calibration? AND if it really is necessary?

Here are two profiles I made for the 15" 9CA3 screen with an Eye2 color calibrator and Coloreyes Display Pro software. They both have gamma of 2.2 and one uses the native white point and the other D65 white point. Most people will want to use the native white point one.

The profiles produce much better result. I like them. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the profile, using the native and love it. Curios though, what is the D65 white point for and how is it different?

I have a 9CA3 15" panel on my 2009 MBP too but bcaslis' color profiles strangely didn't look right.

If anyone is as unfortunate as me, I attached a color profile I created with OS X's Display Calibration Assistant. It looks right to me though I'm pretty sure it's not perfect. Try it out.
