Carrier Did AT&T Next but decided to sell the phone instead

Got the iPhone 6S but had to trade in my iPhone 6.

Decided that's not smart financially, so I sold it instead.

Does anyone know what's going to happen to me? Will they just charge me the left over installment amount? Will I get penalized?

You'll need to pay the rest of the amount. You won't be able to get another phone on the next program until you pay this one off. No, they won't penalize you.

AT&T won't know. As noted above, you'll have to pay off the remaining balance before you can get another phone on the Next plan for that particular line.
