iPod Did I do something wrong with my shuffle?

Ok so last week I got the newest 2 GB iPod shuffle.

I decided when I got home to quickly put songs on it and bring it to the gym with me without really charging it.

Well after a couple uses I am only averaging about 2-3 hours of total playback time of battery life.

Is this seriously what I'm supposed to be getting, or should I send it in or what? I bought it at Target if that matters.

I think you need to fully charge it before using it at all.

I've fully charged it three or four times, so I don't think that's the problem.
