So I pre-ordered my iPad 3 (from Apple) and never really saw where it says/said 3rd-Generation on the box or on the product.

So when I looked in my iTunes under "iTunes In The Cloud" this came up under Manage Devices.

Has this NOT been updated yet through Apple or did I get an iPad 2?

I'm having an issue with Kindle books and noticed that when I activated this new iPad as a device Amazon recognized it as an iPad 2. I think it's just a software setting inside the OS. When you look at the screen, you won't mistake the difference.

This is my first iPad...is there anything in General Setting or ANYTHING that actually tells me this is the third generation iPad?

I know it probably is...but where's the proof?

The screen resolution. If it 768X1024 then it is an iPad 2. The iPad 3rd generation is 1536X2048.

Also, the new model has about a GB of ram whereas the iPad2 had 512Mb.

My new iPad 32GB wifi only reads MC706B rather than MC706LL A. Any idea why?

It's a iPad 2.

easy solution... look at the box!!! ;D

iPad-3-vs-iPad-2-box.jpg

LEFT: iPAD3; RIGHT: iPAD2

EDIT: lolz, ok fine, someone person could easily switch it.. better solution- look at the model number!!

If your keyboard has a microphone button you have a 3, if it doesn't you have a 2.

No need to check serial numbers..keep it simple folks :D

If dictation is off then there is no microphone even on the iPad 3... just check the serial number or end up going round and round on bad advice.

If he has no wi-fi connection connected he won't see the microphone and then will think he has an iPad 2 lol

Is it really that hard?

I mean really? Is it?

Quite frankly if you cant tell the difference based purely on the screen alone, then a 3rd Gen iPad is NOT the iPad for you anyway.
