I just upgraded the RAM in my 27 Inch 2019 iMac, There was one thing that confused me when i opened the back cover and that was the positioning of the 2 PRE-Existing Ram Sticks that were in the iMac (the 2x 4GB Sticks from Apple). They were not installed one next to another, Is that how it was supposed to be? i just added the 2 x 8GB sticks into the empty slots in the tray, i know that RAM should be installed in Pairs so id like to know if i installed the Ram correctly or if i need to open it and install the same branded Ram Sticks one next to another in Pairs

Heres a screenshot from the System info,

Did i install the ram correctly or do i need to remove the cover again and remove all 4 sticks and install them in Pairs?

If the RAM is "recognized" by the OS, then I reckon you "installed it correctly" ... ;)

Well, technically it will recognize it even if it's not in dual-channel mode. Not sure if macOS throws up a warning that it's not in dual-channel mode because I've never installed it incorrectly. The difference is the memory runs slower, even though you have more of it.

Channel 0 is paired to channel 2 as A/B and channel 1 is paired to channel 3 as A/B and the modules in those pairs need to be the same capacity for it to work. This is why Apple installs the 2x4GB in slot 0 and slot 2 instead of just filling up slot 0 and 1. DIMM0 and DIMM1 each need an A/B channel pairing for full dual-channel speed. Then you have the iMac Pro which is quad-channel so you have to match all four slots to get full speed.
