Directed more towards OP: It is common for 16G to represent $16,000. The correct unit of measurement for gigabytes (of data) is "GB", not "G".

Still not helpful to the OP.

You must be really anal retentive when it comes to your movie compressions, I have 100s of 1080p movies I stream to my AppleTV and not a single one is more than 2gb, even the extended editions of LOTR.

The base iPad price is set by the 16GB WiFi only model in the resale market. After that the storage and cellular are less than 50 cents on the dollar. That's why some think 16GB is best for resell. However, if the base price of the iPad falls more than 50% then the higher end models tend to perform better because the storage and cellular tend to hold fairly stable at 50% loss.

I use Apple TV3 preset in Handbrake .99 from Blu-ray folder structure. I have sub 2GB 720P files but definitely not 1080p. Granted the Apple TV3 preset looks really close to the original Blu-ray.

Technically the resale value is determined by the market. Things are only worth what people will pay for them. It varies from buyer to buyer. To some a 16gb would be worthless, to others anything above a 16gb would be worthless.

Based on what?

He's right. 16gb is easiest to sell and you recover most of your cost to put towards the next version

A 64gb costs 200 dollars more now, but will only be worth $50 more than a 16gb version this time next year (at most)

Again, based on what?

You are making a definitive statement about the future. I am not saying that they do not have good resale, but the 16gb is not the best model for all potential buyers.

Some people want LTE, some people want maximum storage. Others want the lowest cost.

I just made the same decision and ordered the 16g. I have a 32g 5s so I use that for my music. I plan on just using the rMini for emails, browsing the internet, playing a few small games, and the reason I am getting the unit is to replace my outdated Nook Tablet.

Reading will be the main reason, and books do not take up much space. Once the book is read, it will be deleted.

I also have until the 25th of Jan to decide if I want to upgrade to the 32g.

Let your wife and daughter use it, and see if fits their needs. If not you can always exchange if for a 32g.

Videos, Photos, Music will consume the most amount of space, especially if you have tons of them.

I have a 32GB iPhone 5, and I put all my photos and music on them. I don't see the point of putting the same photos and music on my 16 GB rMini.

Reading and reference is my main use of my rMini. It's a complementary device to my retina macbook pro.

Books and most apps will be less than 50 MB, with most Books being less than 10 MB. Games like Infinity Blade will trend towards 1 GB of space. The games I play are typically less than 50 MB.

For me 16 GB is more than enough space.

I don't put any videos on my rMini either. I think it too much of a hassle to download the video, I would rather stream.

Videos are the big space killer. If you have a huge video library your gonna eat up space fast. If you stream most of your videos like me, through Netflix, Dropbox, Youtube, etc. You will be fine with 16 GB.

On a side note, why are people putting huge video libraries on their iPads. How often do they even watch the videos in their library.

Last time I did that was in 2007, when they had a video iPod and I commuted to work on a train. It such a hassle ripping the dvds than putting them on my video iPod to play.

If you have tons of videos just buy a iPod classic it has a 160 GB. Most of it is probably free.

Some people want LTE, some people want maximum storage. Others want the lowest cost.

Just as an example on Gazelle...a 16 GB WIFI iPad 4 that cost $500 new you can get $230 for it.

The 128 GB with LTE that you paid $929 for ($429 more than the base model) Gazelle is only offering $345 for it ($115 more than the base model)

Now these offers are low compared to what you can get on craigslist or ebay but the same patterns in price are there too. The extra price for LTE and more storage do not hold up over time.

I bought my kids 16 gb iPad minis last year. They were fine but I have had to spend a lot of time deleting and downloading content. My kids don't surf the web or do email etc... So mostly they play games and watch movies which take up a lot of space. I think 16 gb is doable with a little planning and as long as your wife and daughter can easily delete stuff and download more.

I'm finding out that 32 GB should be the standard. We have our Apps, some Apps for the Grandchildren, and some music, and only have about 10 GB remaining.

I want to download Pages, Numbers, and GarageBand, and just noticed GarageBand is 5.88 GB alone!

So for us, 32Gb has become the new standard.

Yeah, $100 for more memory is a rip off, when Apple could easily add a SDHC slot, but that's why they have the largest market cap.

Yeah that guy with his 32TB storage solution has too much money. The price of maintaining that system is ridiculous. Just rent the movie if you want to watch it again. Might very well be cheaper.

You're right. It's a good thing, then, that the post was not intended to be helpful to the OP and that it served its purpose of getting at least one person to laugh.

One person besides the person who posted it?

I guess some people will take any attention that they can get.

Just because a guy tries to get one laugh, he's starving for attention? Way to jump to conclusions there.

So it wasn't that funny, it was good for a chuckle, for me.

Well, if you commute or go on a trip, and you want to watch videos, and you don't have cellular or you don't want to pay exorbitant data rates for streaming video data, putting videos on the iPad itself is a good solution. And it'd be nice to be able to put on more videos on the iPad than you actually have time to watch, because you never know which videos you'll be in the mood for.

And videos on the iPod classic? Really? Yes, it does have an insane amount of storage, but it also has a tiny screen.

You can get 32GB storage now for just $1,200 (8x 4TB HDD's or 16x 2TB). I think the 3TB drives have the best $/GB ratio right now but they're just a weird size for me. Add in the cost of the server or NAS hardware and it's likely still cheaper than the new Mac Pro.

I understand what you mean, but it does not add to this post or help the OP.
Neither do 3/4 of the messages in 9/10th of the threads posted in these (or any) forums. It was a freakin' joke! Don't get your bowels in an uproar (My mother used to always say that to me when I was a kid in the old country). :) It wasn't until I turned 68 did I understand what it really meant.

Where a 32gb will come in handy is if you travel and want to put photos/video onto it from a SD card. Gives you that extra even if you only use 16gb at home.
I just sent a 16gb wifi back and got a 32gb LTE on a plan so was only a few dollars more a month.
Have 13gb left now. My last 2 iPads were 16gb and i managed, its good to have all my 6gb of photos on it now. And have room for upcoming holiday photos/video.
