I had an ipod touch 4g a couple of years ago, gave it to a relative, and now I felt like having one again, so I ordered the 4g online, I'm expecting it on friday, should I return it? does it run slow in 2013? I should have done some research online before I bought it

I hate to say it but, with refurbished 32Gb 5G models in the online Apple store for only $219, I'm afraid you did. The 5G is gorgeous and much, much better than the 4G.

The 4G iPod touch is pretty much dead. The A4 and small 256MB RAM makes performance very pokey. It won't even run iOS 7.

The 5G is vastly superior.

Yep. Get a refurb Touch 5. I'm not sure why the Touch 4 is still being sold.

ouch..LOL I payed $214. it'll go back this weekend. i'll look at a refurbed 5g. thanks everyone

How much should a used ipod 4th generation 8gb cost? It should have the same camera capabilities as the 32gb one right? Again i read about the 5th generation 16gb one not being able to take pictures correctly like the front/back camera and that is a huge negative.

Yeah, you unfortunately did.

iPod Touch's aren't on Apple's to-do list anymore. I'm actually surprised they allowed iOS 7 on it.

Return it and get an iPad this year or wait until the iPhone 6 next year.

Yes, all 4G touches have the same cameras. The back camera is terrible on all of them, it's fine for skype or facetime but that's it.

The only difference (camera wise) between the 16 and 32GB & 64GB 5th gen touches is that the 16GB lacks a rear camera. The front facing camera is the same for all of them. Why someone would say that's more complex than that I have no idea.

I have a 32Gb iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6.1.5 and am very pleased. I surf the web, watch films, and play games. I runs all of my games fine (Real Racing 2,3, Boost 2, Temple Run, Minecraft PE (runs the latest update maxed out apart from the transparent leafs), Dead Space, Mirrors Edge...). The only game I have had problems running was Modern Combat 3 which just runs at a low frame rate (I'd guess 16-20fps). And that would be up to the CPU, not the RAM. I have crashes on Safari ever now and then but to be honest, people are having Safari crashes on there new iPad Airs. Very happen with it :)

Fun fact; the RAM module in the 4G iPod is only a 248Mb stick, not the 256 in the iPad 1. iOS 7 on iPod Touch 5 is like iPod Touch 4 on iOS 6.1.5 . It is just upto the OP on which OS they like more lol.

Do you even own a Touch 5 ? As an actual owner of a Touch 5, I know that the Touch 5 runs IOS 7 great. I can't believe the misinformation by people who don't own the Touch 5.

iOS 7 on iPod Touch 5 is like iPod Touch 4 on iOS 6.1.5 .

I would have to disagree. The Touch 4 has issues running IOS 6 while the Touch 5 has no issues running IOS7. The comparison is probably closer to the Touch 4 with IOS 5.

Only you can say for sure….but mine is still running like new and I use it as a music player and telephone. I like that it is more square in size than the new 5th generation which is taller and slimmer at the waist….I see no reason to upgrade.

well that's that..lol return process was a hassle, so I sold it for $220 on craigslist

I hope you got your 5G refurb before you sold the 4G because according to the online store they're all out of 32Gb refurbished 5Gs!

I hate everything about 4g. After comparing it to a 5g of a friends, 4g is slow and pathetic. I only use it for gym now. When buying next generation, 6G, I'll use that for everything but gym :D

OP, you didn't say what you plan on using it for. I have 4 iPod's in active duty and all I use them for is for listening to music. Since they are attached to car stereos and alarm clocks, the only time I even touch them is when I am sync'ing them.

So as long as they can play music and interact with my device, I don't care what they can do.

Do you expect to use this like an iPad or iPhone without cellular?

I usually tell people to consider an iphone 5 or 5C. Downgrade to an ipad line for 10 a month and you got a LTE ipod touch. It's a better deal than even the 5th gen ipod touch running a crappy A5 chip and lousy camera.

Last I checked, you can't fit an iPad in your pocket.

If you have stuff that uses the 30-pin and can't use the adapter it's a good deal. I bought a 64GB 4th gen. iPod touch for this reason. My car's adapter doesn't accept the Lightning to 30-pin adapter.
