If you have stuff that uses the 30-pin and can't use the adapter it's a good deal. I bought a 64GB 4th gen. iPod touch for this reason. My car's adapter doesn't accept the Lightning to 30-pin adapter.

Strange. My car has no issues with the adapter. What model is your car ?

I hate to say it but, with refurbished 32Gb 5G models in the online Apple store for only $219, I'm afraid you did. The 5G is gorgeous and much, much better than the 4G.

I agree with this statement. 4g doesn't even support iOS 7. You will notice a major improvement if you use a iPod touch 4g then use the 5. Plus the 4" display and a real camera.

I think there is nothing bad wit the 4g. It is still useful. You can buy a new version after, and for a low price.

Funny that, I was told that my car wouldn't work with the new Lightning iPods/iPhone and I bought a cool Moshi cable for charging, and was floored that the iPod DOES play through fine. I guess peoples mileage will vary...

Care to explain how it's "cool"? Is it a different cable of some sort? Thanks so much, looking for a solution for my hyundai!

Thanks!

I was told after I bought my car, and the new Lightening port equipped devices came out that they 'would not work' with the in-car stereo. The only thing that would work is a 'Dock' equipped device. Having heard about many cars that had the same issue, I didn't try it. I had an app that sucked my battery dry, I got this Moshi cable because it looked durable, with a thicker cable and aluminum reinforced connector ends. It freaked me out one day when I could not tell what the source of the music was after starting the car. It was the iPod as I remember it. It wasn't playing through BlueTooth.

I have a 2011 Toyota with a JBL 'head' with the 6-disc changer and satellite radio.

The one thing that I've heard from some people is that the iPod/iPhone will play through the system, but there is no way to control it through the 'head' menu system. I have not tried controlling the iPod yet. I flushed the battery hungry app and haven't needed to play music from my devices. I also don't know if the standard Apple cable would work either. It is totally possible that Toyota was mistaken in their statement of Lightening equipped devices not working (the notice came from Toyota) because I had an older Prius and that 'head' was 'iPod compatible' according to Toyota, but neither I or the dealer could get a standard iPod Classic to function.

I did have a Benz years ago and I replaced the 'head' in it with one that would do XM, and iPod for what I thought was a reasonable price. It added a lot of functionality that the factory unit did not have. It might be an option for you and others...

Unfortunately you made a mistake. I have a 4G and its the worst thing ever. It can't run IOS6, let alone IOS7. Honestly, I would've just waited for 6G (probably Oct 2014, if you can manage the wait xD) or bought 5G :p

I have both

Sell the 4 on Ebay and get a five.

The Touch five is brilliant. Really

It's what the iPhone would want to be if it wasn't so bloated. The iPhone has to lug around this huge battery and other things (battery that lasts about five minutes BTW). The Touch 5 has no such burden, and is in every way hugely nicer than the iPhone as far as pocketablitly goes.

They need to update the Touch 5's cpu very soon, which I imagine they will, but it's great now.

The Touch 4 is ok but kind of ...meh.
