I started the live stream a couple of minutes late. Were new tvOS 14 features so Small, it was covered in the minutes I missed? Because I didn’t see anything regarding tvOS 14 from the time I watched.

Oh I found this! Let’s hope the HomePod YouTube issue is fixed.

There was a brief section on tvOS14, but it was over in what seemed like less than a minute.

Actually, I think they spent more time on Apple Homekit Webcams than they did on the whole tvOS 14 section.

They did. That’s why it seems like there was nothing else. If you blinked you missed it. And it was so forgettable.

I missed it too. It was sent to me on Twitter.
Did you hear anything about HomePod? All I saw was that it will announce who is at your door if you have a HomeKit enabled camera. If it can recognise the person. I also saw on the slide support for third party steaming apps.

I want it to be able to control my Apple TV to play back TV shows from iTunes and Apple + like my iPad and iPhone can already do.

Now in that one I’m sure there was nothing. AudioOS wasn’t listed behind Tim was getting started. Plus that was listed with HomeKit.

Won’t be AirPlay. AirPlay tops out at 1080p.

so the native app then?

how??? YouTube uses Google’s own codec for 4K. Are they switching to using the one Apple supports? Or is Apple supporting other 4K codecs???

Apple uses The open MPEG Standard and Google use their own your Priority VP9 codec and their products! So whom is not supporting the open standard?

lean about the 4K streaming online War Between Apple and Google in the blog article The 4K Video Codec War What You Need To Know!

I don’t know. But my guess is Google caved. V9 needs a sufficient hardware capability that the current tv may not have. Supposedly V9 is about 20% less efficient than HEVC. Although I guess it could be a hint to a new tv in the fall. But I’m really just guessing.

But there’s just no way it could be done via AirPlay. You can’t even AirPlay a 4K video you shot on your phone to your tv.

You will be able to airplay your 4K videos with tvOS 14.

YouTube in 4K: FINALLY!

Good to know!!! I wonder if it’s gonna be AirPlay or is it just gonna get the URL from your phone and then  will play it from your iCloud as if you had played it from tvOS Photos. Like a Handoff situation.

YouTube in 4K? Is that from the tvOS app or airplay?
Holy S... they finally added 4K YouTube? ...color me excited to get home and update just for this.
So now, fingers crossed, we get 4K in Safari on YouTube as well.

but yeah, I had the keynote on, someone Walked in the room to ask a few questions, I go back to watch the keynote and the Big Sur is on the screen so I completely missed the little aTV segment.

It went by very, very fast! I bet a lot of people missed it.

They didn’t mention it on the keynote-it’s buried at the bottom of the ATV section on Apple.com.

I was annoyed by how long they spent on Foundation. I’m still not convinced people will keep tv+ past the free year. I’m still not certain my family will.
