After updating to iOS 14, my understanding was that I can click on any email address in safari and it will open up the default email app (for me it is Spark). However, it seems like this doesn’t work in Apple Native apps (I’ve only tried safari and notes) as it opens up a pop up windows from the Mail app.
If I click on an email address from other apps like WhatsApp, it does open up the Spark email app.

So am I correct to assume default email app would not work in safari?

I don’t think Spark is supported yet. If you go to settings > the app you will see the option to change the default. In my case it’s outlook and this is the option which change that.

I have outlook, but if I click a link in safari, I get Apple's Mail new email pop up from the bottom, same as the OP's post about spark.

So if you have selected the default to Outlook then it should work. It’s working for me. 4.56 is the outlook version I have.

Find a link in Safari and click it. Does create a new email in Outlook or does it give you the native Mail app pop up? As I have Outlook set as default and email links in Safari don't open in Outlook.

It does work.

Here is Video of how that’s working.

Not working here:

Video stops short of showing my email, as don't want it seen. Doing the same as you and it pops Apple's new email up, does not shift to Outlook.

The latest one in the App Store - 4.55.1, that brings the option to settings for default mail app. Just like anyone else that got the update for it, as covered on the Front Page on this site, confirming the update brings this functionality.

I have reported it to the Developers.

I am on 4.56, this is the latest beta. None of the versions prior worked. As I see on App Store the version is 4.55.1 and it never worked on any of the prior versions in TestFlight rather did not have the option.

Well, 4.55.1 brings the option, but appears to be broken. Nice to see they tested it properly...........

Likely they will push this out to App Store tomorrow. These were releases in TestFlight

I have noticed that the default does not work fully unless you actually delete the Apple Mail app on your iDevice.

Does selecting on an email address/mailto link go to Outlook when selecting in Safari, Contacts App, and iMessage? I had mix success while keeping the Apple Mail installed.

It seems like other email providers are having the same exact issue. So I am not sure if this is an Apple thing or an Outlook thing.

Edit: Also does the beta that you are on have the new Outlook widget that has been shown around?

YES, this is the answer. I deleted the Mail app, set the default mail apps AGAIN, and now it’s working!!

9to5 Mac also reported on a bug that after you restart your device, the default mail and browser resets to Apple Mail and Safari. A rather nasty bug if you ask me.

Glad to help. However, this is not helpful if you prefer the default Apple Mail on your watch which requires it to be installed on your iPhone.I hope this is a bug as we should not have to do this.

I wonder if the 14.2 beta fixes this. Can anyone confirm?
