Just to be clear here, you're saying you've never heard of a hard disk failing in a PC? Somehow, I think it's a bit of a stretch to equate that to the existence of the abominable snowman.

Hard disks fail, period. It isn't always heat that causes the failures. They fail in PCs, Macs, DVRs, game consoles and wherever else they are installed.

Hi Cursor,
don't use this HD and replace it as soon as possible...

+++++1

I know +1 posts are against forum rules, but I really think in this case it is needed.

Cursor, do NOT try to continue to use that drive.
Believe me, I've been there. I've done what you are doing.
And I learned the lesson. Don't do it. Replace the drive now.
It's very tempting to try to keep using the drive because it seems like it might be OK. No. It will fail again.
(Am I being clear here? :D)

OK, I read it again and stand by my former reply. :p

Was it meant to be sarcastic? If so, OK, I get it now.

Help me please

I have exactly same issue the original thread opener had.
2007 imac. Failed tonight.
Question mark on a folder. No response on disk utility but "media".
Repair doesn't work.

I'm planing to replace the HDD but I was wondering if SDD is an good option for my old imac. or even possible to install SSD.

Any advices?
