As of yesterday I have new Catalina and Safari updates awaiting for me to press the OK button.
 
I am not making it up.
It might well have been released in December, but it appeared only yesterday.

I know. Sorry if it sounded defensive. It was more a statement to myself.
I don’t understand why it took so long for this update to be delivered to me.

I thought maybe the OP experienced the same, but then again probably not as I have never seen Safari spontaneously closing and “reboot with an upgrade message”, as he puts it.

i installed safari 15,? with a fresh catalina install an hour ago, then got that promo to upgrade to 15.2
if this helps
