Did Snow Leopard abandon Quartz Composer?

I ask because QTX can't play .qtz files and there is a beautiful screensaver I've been in love with since Tiger called Snowfall. You can download it here:

Under Tiger and Leopard, the screensaver was amazing, but in Snow Leopard the screensaver is jittery.

I'm assuming this has something to do with it being a Quartz file? Does anyone know if the qtz file can be recompiled to work fluidly again? I've contacted the dev, but have heard nothing back.

The developer just emailed me:

Hi,

This appears to be a newly introduced bug in Quartz Composer on 10.6.2 that causes very poor frame rate. On 10.6 and 10.6.1 things are as usual, at least on my machines. Unfortunately this may require a fix from Apple.
