Also for some time now, the playlist detail, like how many songs and minutes, are not in the top portion, that does not make any sense, one needs to scroll down the whole damn list to see those details ???

And when playing a song, you have to hover over the player to see time elapsed/remaining.

It's just not functional to hide things like that without some way to "always show it" if you'd like.

Is this a legitimate complain or just not liking any change? Like do you actually stare at the app and watch the seconds tick by when listening to music? I've never done that in my life.

It's not a change, it does it on Sequoia.

And yes, I do like to know how much time is left in a track when I glance at the App / Player.

There was a way to phrase your post that doesn't come off with that tone you did.
It'd could be a bit more polite and would be appreciated in the future. ✌️

I tend to be very sarcastic in nature. I admit my post was dripping in sarcasm, but it was meant to be more playful teasing rather than condescending. Reading it back it did come off badly though, I agree.

I find this annoying too. Still visible on an iPhone, not visible on a Mac. Don’t know why they decided to hide that away under a mouse hover.

If the recent touchscreen rumors are true, then all these floating controls at the bottom make sense. Instead of reaching to the top of the screen, you only have to reach for the bottom. My guess is that they are now testing it all out and getting users prepared and used to it now.

But just a theory.

Touchscreen Macs have been the subject of rumours since before the iPad was a thing. I don't think it is going to happen. Moreover, we would have seen more consistent UI changes across the board to reflect this.

I think the more likely reasons for this change are that Apple is unifying the app designs across platforms and (as !!! already wrote at the beginning) showing off Liquid Glass.

I just found this morning. Did they removed the "Add to Library" button in the mini player? I think I used to be able to add a new song to library directly in mini player, but now the button is nowhere to find.

I'm finding all of my folders and subfolders opening up when I duplicate a playlist or even add music to the Music app. I can close them all and then reopen what I need, but it's definitely unnecessary and a pain to deal, especially for those of us with hundreds of playlist folders.

After reading you guys, I decided to play around a bit with Music. I only have about 40,000 songs and 2,200 albums with only a couple of hundred songs and corresponding albums from the iTunes Store, I ripped all the rest with dBpoweramp Music Converter and did the tags with Tag Editor, which work very well, BTW.

The new version solved one my problems. In previous versions going back several years whenever I'd start to type something in the search bar, the cursor would jump out to somewhere else on the screen. It doesn't do that now, but what it does do is jump around in playlists. If I highlight The Beatles, Music might open the Beatles folder or it might jump to a different artist.

If I go to the end of a playlist, Music will show me the number of songs and the time. Great. But up in the Library section if you click albums, it tells you right at the top how many albums, etc. Where's the consistency?

The control bar or whatever you call it, down at the bottom is just one of dumber things I've ever seen. On my 24" iMac there's about 8 X 0.5 inches of wasted space up by the menu bar which could house the control bar. Why does it have to cover up songs, albums, etc.?

But the big problem in this version just like the last version is songs drop-out when listening with AirPod Max, AirPods 3, AirPod Pro 2 and Bose something or other. It's like a LP skipping on an old record player. Unlistenable! However, when playing through my original HomePods everything sounds great. This is nothing new with Tahoe or my iMac M4. Listening via a Bluetooth device the song would skip around going back to my 2019 iMac and whatever software version we were using in 2022 or so.

I'm going to have to call Apple, although I dread that so. The battery in my iPhone 15 Pro Max is dying. Since I'm more than 100 miles from an Apple Store, Apple is going to replace the phone, which is nice. What's not nice is the three people I had to talk to over several days and many hours to get to this point only to discover Apple doesn't have any 15 Pro Max phones to send to me. I don't know where we are going with that.

I'm retired, so I can screw off a whole day on this stuff. But you guys still working, you shouldn't have to go through things like this when you put out your hard earned money for a premium product. Bad, really, really bad.

This is one of the most frustrating things I've seen.

It makes no sense to be like this on a Mac.

I don't know if Apple gave up on the music app, but I did a few years ago because it was a horrible PITA to use, and constantly screwed up my local library. Been using Foobar2000. It's not as pretty, but at least it lets me shuffle by album, and doesn't screw things up.

All new music is imported with iTunes/Mojave on my MP 5.1 then transferred to my newer devices. Still easier than Music.app.

How do you sync iPhones and/or iPods?

I never used the sync function anyway. Manual management. I don't need or want my entire library on my iPod or phone.

But how do you get any of it on there?
How are you manually managing it?

(not denigrating, I'm trying to understand if what you're doing will work for me -- I hate Apple Music)

Somewhat off topic, but that iTunes 11 "LCD" looked gorgeous...

It really is exquisitely designed isn't it. The Album view was even more gorgeous taking on the colours of albums all in a single view, now we just get huge empty white pages

No worries. I use Music.app to add new stuff to the phone after I've transferred it to the M3 Air via network or external storage. That's pretty much the only time I use it. All playback is Foobar. The iPod 6G still connects to the MP 5.1 no problem. Bought the 6G iPod when they announced the discontinuation. Have an old Griffin iTrip that I use in vehicles without BT. Fortunately they're both still rockin'.

I'm not a heavy user of the music app, around the time they launched Apple Music the macos app stopped working correctly (like much of this thread is experiencing) and I ended up switching to Youtube Music. I've never actually launched it since I reinstalled Sonoma a few years ago (I just launched it and got the welcome screen), but I'm surprised that they thought this was a good UI for large screens. Am I missing a UI principle or trend?

But this screenshot just made me realise the amount of depth in the old UI and....this would have been far easier to apply liquid glass to, and I think it would've looked great.

There's a lot of depth in that screenshot. Top bar, now playing section, the album playlist expansion, the missing album covers, the sidebar looks like it tucks underneath the Albums section, and even the pill based tab bar up there makes sense.
