Did they remove the sleep shortcut?

I am used to just pressing the power button for a second to make my MacBook Pro sleep.

Did they remove the feature/shortcut in Sierra??

Doesn't seem to work on my mid-2014 rMBP.

Did you do a fresh install or just update?

Update from El Capitan. Just to be sure - does the button physically work? As in, does holding it longer open the shutdown menu?

The funny thing is that I actually tried resetting it once - but the second time it did the trick.

Same problem here. Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012.

Power button to Sleep worked fine on El Capitan. Used it daily.
Updated to Sierra. Now it doesn't work anymore.

Tapping it: does nothing
Holding 1.5 sec: does nothing
Holding 5 sec: resets

Shortcut cmd + option + power button does work.
