Bought a 2.66 i7 with the high res matte screen and I love it. The only thing lacking is the HDD which I just bought the stock 5400RPM drive. Once Intel releases their new line of ssd's I will probably upgrade that. Then it will be the perfect machine.

I have the 2.66 I7 15". I have upgraded the stock 500 gig drive to the same size Seagate Momentus XT hybrid, and love it! Very fast boot, and application opening. I also upgraded from 4gig ram to 8gigs, overall im very happy!:D

Nope, base 17". But it's infinitely more ballin' than any 15", so I got no regrets.

So ∞ = 2" (or 540,000 pixels)? Other than a slightly larger screen, extra USB port and ExpressCard/34 slot there is no difference and those 3 things don't make it infinitely more anything. Well, I guess you can't get an i5 with 512 MB of video memory on a 15" but that isn't "ballin"

Don't get me wrong, I really like the 17"

You forgot something, bro. Chicks dig the swagger of the 17". I actually have to carry a large stick with my every time I go into a Starbucks with my computer so I can keep the girls away from it.

The 15" is the receiver of the MBP highschool football team, and the the 17" is the QB.

QB of the HIGHSCHOOL football team? Since when does a 17/18 year old kid signify awesomeness?

I went from a 15" to a 17" with my last upgrade. I enjoy the higher resolution display, but there is nothing cool about trying to use the 17" on an airplane or on one of those tiny round tables at a coffeeshop.

The thing is big enough to land a plane on. I'm all elbows and awkward trying to use it when space is tight. It's dorky as hell.

no still using my late 2008 macbook pro, still running great, my first mbp.
at first i wanted the i7 when it came out.

I bought the C2D 2.53 4GB 320GB MBP when it was middle of the road. Not base, but not loaded. And I got it refurb. It's been an awesome computer. :)

I also have a pretty tricked out MBP. 15" 2.8 i7 with 8GB RAM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (128GB) and Hi-Res Anti-Glare. It boots ridiculously fast. Going to sell it and get a MBA "Ultimate" as I really don't need this much power however much I love to have it!

How much you think you can get for it? I'm VERY interested as to how much it would sell.

Got the machine in my sig:

i7 2.66
7200RPM 500GB HDD
Hi Res glossy screen 15"

I actually got it a few months ago and the 2.8 wasn't an option. I may have got that if it was available as you can't change it later. Next year I will get 8GB ram and an SSD, hopefully an Intel G3 300GB. I also got the other week a copy of 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium OEM :D, kinda Christmas pressy to myself. I use it for bootcamp fro some games and was using 32 bit XP Pro and figured I come into the modern Windows era haha.

This is my third MB Pro, the first one was the old style and I just hated the keyboard so I ditched that as soon as the unibody's came out but I only got the 2.53 and really wished I got the top end model, I also went through 3 of these before I got one that wasn't faulty!!!

Anyway I got my current i7 as I wanted the auto graphics switching and the core I CPU and I knew I wanted the top end model this time! The higher screen res is also very nice.
My machine is just for my general use and I have no regrets getting the top end model. I was thinking of selling it and getting an iMac because of the gaming performance but I was just being stupid plus I cannot afford the top end iMac with the SSD and HDD which are a right pain to install. Plus I can't lay on my bed or sofa with a 27" iMac!

If you can afford to max out the computer then do it, you can alway's buy the RAM and SSD later like me too if it's a laptop Mac.

As for glossy or matte, I find that is alway's personal preference or required due to where you use the computer like outdoors.

Very Happy

I just got my new MBP as an early Christmas gift a few days ago and couldn't be happier.

I got the 17" 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. I kept the stock 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD. I know the RAM would have been cheaper from a third party but I decided on a whim to have it done in store.

The first one I got actually had a dead pixel on the screen. I took it back the next day and a sales manager was nice enough to have a new one ready (complete with migration) within an hour. Go Apple!

This second one is perfect, as expected.

My previous laptop was a 2008 stock white macbook (2.1 GHz C2D 4 GB aftermarket upgrade).

I am contemplating upgrading to one of those 1 TB 12.5mm drives internally but haven't decided. 500 GB should be plenty of space for me and if I need extra space, I figure I can always get one or two of those Expresscard/34 SSDs.

My spec is in my sig. Completely happy with it, considering I didnt have to pay for any of it!
At least I get some kind of bonus through work!

I bought the maxed out 15" i7 last April when the product was refreshed. I use as much cpu power as possible when working with audio. I use my MBP to earn a living, so it's always worth it to me to buy a higher end machine.

I love mine ( specs in sig ) I don't think I could have lived with the lower resolution. In fact I wish they offered full 1920x1200 at this size but this will do. Also could not live with only 4GB of ram when your running tons of apps at once like photoshop and aperture it can eat up to 6gbs of that ram.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I love mine went for what I acutally need plus a little extra for the future, but over all I did ram myself and then the SSS and now it's great!

I can't tell if there is sarcasm here.

Yes and no; I have a Core 2 Duo 13 inch and I love it and find it to be fast as can be for what I do. With that said, a friend has the 15 inch i7 and compared to his previous 15 inch C2D, it's a big difference for the programs that he runs. So yes, I love my computer but I have gained a respect for the i7 and the i7 obviously gives users running more advanced programs than myself a clear speed and capability advantage.

And yes, I really do have i7 stickers on my MBP as I wanted to confuse the heck out my friend with the i7 MBP.
