Does the MacBook Air M1 do the same thing?
without the finger prints?
The same thing as what? The same form factor? No. The same speed? No. The same chip? No.

Seriously if finger prints are that big of a deal get an iPad with a case and move on.

I kept it because the battery of my M1 12.9 iPad Pro drops too fast for my liking.

seems most people kept it

it's obviously an improvement over the m1 air and once you get it it's hard to send back

i would buy it for the lack of PWM only tbh

but for the price difference i ended up getting a mba m1 . it's 300e cheaper for the retail price, and even more when there are deals

lol this is a mac forum and the MBA section no less, ofcourse the data is going to be skewed positively. you won't really find any negative reviews in this thread. 😂

Depends. Space grey m1 probably gets fingerprints and silver has just as many as any color but you just can’t see them.

As far as do they do the same thing, I mean any laptop does basically the same things but it is how it does them that is the difference.

M1 MBA is still a great laptop but the dimmer screen and larger bezels might compel one to get the M2. The M2 is also a faster chip with better graphics so I would say it does things a little better.

Then there is MagSafe and a redesign.

So my answer to your question would be NO it doesn’t do the same thing but that might be a little dramatic like the fingerprint complaints on the M2.
How much different is the battery on an M1 Air vs the M2 Air at similar workloads (more casual use)? Thinking of getting my spouse a used M1 Air after their current ancient HP laptop breaks down.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I had a M1 13" MBP and the 14" and 16" M1 MBP before my M2 MBA.

If you can get an M1 13 MBP for a comparable price I would recommend it over the air just because the screen is better and it has amazing battery life. My M2 MBA is similar to my old M1 MBP which was probably the best of any laptop I have owned.

The M1 14/16/" MBP have a lot less battery life in my experience with the M1 max being the worst but any m series chip runs circles around Intel in terms of performance, thermal output and battery life so no matter what you get it will be a significant improvement in my personal experience.

Hope that helps.

Had an M1 in repair for screen crack; bought an M2 as a temporary and decided to keep it. When the M1 came back from Apple Care a week later for $99, I did a trade in- got a $420 credit on the card against the new Mac. Also it was back to school time, and am enrolled in the local college for a class, so there was education pricing- plus a $150 gift certificate which I used to pay for the discounted Apple Care (Discounted price was $179; so net extra $29 for three years instead of $249. M2 has a better screen where I don't need glasses at all to see, with the MAGSAFE, you end up getting an extra usaable port. Battery life is better- also it's at 100% after 82 cycles. I like the new case (got Space Gray) a little better. Also. better sound and it seems faster. Configuration is 8/512.

Best Buy has the base M2 MBA on sale for $999, available in all 4 colors. I thought I got a good deal at $1,049. For those that complained about the price, here is your chance.

Thanks. It'll probably still be a little while, but currently the M1 Air vs the M1 13" MBP are priced fairly similarly on the used market, with the Air being a little less. From the specs, the only difference on screen between those two seems to be that the Pro is slightly brighter. Is there anything else notably different between the M1 13" Pro and the M1 Air?

A few things. Pro has a fan. Louder speakers. Brighter screen. Longer battery life. It is also a little heavier. The brighter screen and louder speakers are really the main differences.

I bought mine off someone who had buyer's remorse and hadn't opened the box but was beyond their return date. As such I ended up with an 8GB system with 512GB of storage in Midnight.

I love it. If I had the choice I'd have ordered a Starlight with 16GB but I couldn't argue with the price, several hundred dollars less than what I would have paid for a fresh one. Maybe in a few years I'll trade up. But for now it rips through anything I can throw at it. I had an informal "stoplight drag" with a friend who has a gaming PC with a current Ryzen 7 chip and an RTX 3050 in it and H.264 encoding in Handbrake was a dead heat, except that he was pulling down 120W of power usage! This machine gives up nothing in performance for it's size and sleekness. Of course if you're going to rip all day long, a MacBook Pro with a fan would be better, but even when I run into thermal throttling, it's a marginal drop.

Unless you're working with huge video workloads or virtualizing other OSes 8GB seems to work just fine, and the speed of the internal storage means paging to disk is virtually instant. In two months I haven't seen even a hiccup.

I kept it and it's now covered in stickers including a couple vintage rainbow Apple logos, one on the lid and one on the wrist rest, which honestly looks almost stock, seeing as there's no text below the screen to tell you what this machine is. There's actually no text that says "MacBook Air" anywhere on the unit. Which is odd. But I've embraced it.

I expect this machine will be just fine for my uses for a few years yet, and then maybe I'll hunt down a 16GB version. The midnight colour has grown on me. Yes the fingerprints are visible but more stickers means less real estate for smudges! Didn’t include a pic of the lid because some of my stickers are very not politically neutral.

The M2 MBA in silver and starlight don’t show fingerprints, that is just specific to the Midnight Blue color. It bothers some people and others don’t care. Why do you ask?
