so who here pre order it? or going to get it this month ?

Maybe when it actually becomes a functional laptop. At least a removable battery and a 2nd USB port.

I bought one for the hell of it. I'll probably give it to my secretary after I play with it for a week. My MBP fills all my needs at the moment.

can you get me one for the hell of it too?:D

Not a chance. I was so excited, and now this. It looks like a clamshell that hasn't ate since it was released. Ugly, barely functional.

My Vaio x505 is still thinner and lighter then this thing (and way better looking), Apple is using "the worlds thinnest" very, very liberally.

looks more like a door stop too me..:D

I didn't preorder because I won't be needing it until later in the season, so I'm just waiting until the free iPod deal for college students returns... I am definitely buying one though :)

Oooh an X505.. Shame everywhere I look they're more expensive than the Air.

I do want an Air, but I won't be allowed to get one. Or any laptop for that matter. Or any computer. Or any electronic.

NOTE TO ALL:

Never buy the 1st version of Apple ANYTHING. Once these get out in the wild, there's going to be threads full of problems and complaints. Oh, and maybe even a price correction. Just you wait.

But when is the next revision? :(

Hopefully the next one has a regular battery, more than 1 USB port, maybe a Firewire port... just regular stuff and a price drop to $1500. :)

My iPod touch works perfectly fine. You don't need to make it seem like everyone is going to be experiencing these problems. As for the price, I don't think it will change for a loooong time.

yup..well said..i have the 3rd gen macbook and im please with this..air dont come close to it..and the air you need to buy extra accs so that you can istall a software/program..dont they make lots of $$$ already..

im happy with my black macbook:D

Just so we don't get off on the wrong foot.. It is a Macbook Air. AIR is a product of Adobe.

I know this is going to end up like the MAC/Mac deal.

The MBA would be perfect with
1 a dock
2 an external battery
3 a 32Gb SSD BTO version it would still be enough for most documents to take on the go.
4 a BTO 160GB version. If they can put it in the iPod, why not in the MBA?

I'm interested in going and seeing it in person (I'm reeaally close to one of the flagship stores), but I highly doubt I'd buy it.

you keep tellin' yourself that ;)

These are the X505 specs, barely functional as well for today's use:
10.4" screen
20GB HD
2MB cache
max capacity of 512MB 266 Mhz DDR RAM
keys are small
small bar is extremely small
no built-in WiFi
no trackpad, very small mouse buttons
actual battery life 1.75 to 2.5 hr with built-in power management
Price $2,999 to $3,999

Nah- I think it's cool, but the price tag is a bit much for what it does. As mentioned in another thread, my iBook G4 is doing me just fine. I'm gonna hold out some more.

Yes. Fully loaded.
Hey, welcome back clayj! :)

No, I didn't order a MacBook Air: I have a MacBook that I'm perfectly content with, and for me, extra-portability is not an issue, so the extra cost cannot be justified (but for what it's worth, I believe the price is fair).

Aren't the iPod hard-drives slower than the 4200 RPM harddrives used in laptops? Maybe that's the reason. I believe this used to be true with the (now ancient) 3G and 4G iPods.

Imagine if they just replaced the MacBook's optical drive with a 16 GB SSD. No more booting up. Just open the lid and it instantly turns on, while you still have an HDD, which keeps the system from costing a fortune. The laptop probably wouldn't last very long, though.....maybe 2-3 years, max?
