Hey Everyone.

As I’m considering the iPhone 12 Pro & 12 Pro Max I’m wondering if anyone has gone for the phablet phones only to regret it? People I know seem to all be one or the other. They love and swear by their large phones or they hate them.

As someone who has contemplated the larger phones ever since the 6 Plus, I’ve never actually had one. Not by direct choice but my work has allowed me access to cheap phones and deals that where usually the smaller variety.

Let me know you experience?

I wouldn't say I regret it. I am likely getting a 12 or 12 Pro this time around though. It is a tradeoff having that big of a phone in your pocket all the time, it can become unwieldy. The overall size, plus the added weight of the SS.

Again, not something that can't be dealt with, just a tradeoff.

I always had the plus versions of every iPhone so naturally when the XS max released I preordered it. I returned it the next day, it was just too big for me. And I didn’t enjoy using it one handed. I have been so happy with the 5.8 inch screen size that I’m a little nervous jumping to the 6.1 but I think it will be fine. I like that the dimensions aren’t really all that different from the 5.8

Hi,

Owner of 11 Pro Max and Plus devices before that.

Short answer = no, I have never regretted going for the larger phone.

Longer answer = It will take a little bit of time getting used to the size, not just using it, but also in your jeans, jackets etc. It isn't a deal breaker by any stretch, but you will notice the difference for the first week or so. Once you get over that the large screen is great to use.

I love the larger screen for the display and viewing content on YouTube, Netflix etc. Battery was never a consideration, it lasts all day and I charge in the evening, both Max and non Max would last for how I use it.

Saying that, I am going for the 12 Pro this time round - I want a smaller display and form factor. The larger form factor of the Max is often a distraction (but this is personal) and I want to try a smaller phone to counter this.

If you've never had the Max I'd say go for it.

This has happened to me as well, although I did keep the Xx Max for the entire year but boy am I glad to have switched back to the smaller 11 Pro.

This time thing and getting used to it just never worked for me. I had the 8 plus and the Xs Max back to back so 2 years of plus size devices and still they were as unwieldy and they were the first day.

One handed usage is just not an option with these devices and if you’re in Europe where public transportation is still the main method of commuting during rush hour, the pain of that huge size is felt every day.

I’ve been really happy with the smaller 11 Pro since last year. But I’m also a huge iPhone photography enthusiast. So I’m eyeing the 12 Pro Max this year but not sure at all if I’m going to regret it.

Size vs camera. It’s a tough decision for me. I have a sneaky suspicion that camera will win in the end. Let’s see....

I have.

The iPhones I used was Original, 4s, 5s, and then I decided to get the 6s Plus at its launch because I thought I would like the larger screen.

I did, but only when I could have two hands on the phone. I quickly realized that the majority of my phone usage was one handed and the 6s Plus was not a one-handed phone for me.

One handed photos was almost impossible for me. They would usually turn out blurry from me trying to hold the phone steady. Or I would just drop the phone.

Not only was using it one handed an issue, but storing it in clothing and my vehicles ended up becoming a big issue. I had no place to put it in any of my cars, so it would usually end up on the passenger seat, only to go flying when I did a sharp turn.

I had issues with my favorite medium-weight coat. The pockets were too small, and I kept it in the breast pocket. The way that the phone sat in the pocket, the top third of the phone stuck out, usually the part with the camera. I got asked at least once a week if I was recording video due to the location of the camera.

I knew I really had a problem with my iPhone 6s Plus when I started doing clothing shopping based off of the storage of my iPhone.

I ended up really regretting my iPhone purchased, and as soon as the 128GB SE1 came out, I purchased it and sold my 6s Plus. BTW, it was the only iPhone that I have ever sold, and I still have all the other ones.

I love my SE1 and have purchased another one when they went clearance. I plan on using the SE1 until I cannot anymore, and then I will probably upgrade to the iPhone 12 Mini or its equivalent. I will really miss the Touch ID though.

I have had my Max fro 18 months.

I love it but just recently I have found it a little annoying for one handed use, mainly for trying to reach the top of the screen. The smaller phones feel too small though.

I'm going for the 6.1" Pro next week and that screen size the sweet spot between the two

This is my issue. I want the best camera and zoom is the one thing I hate to be missing. In saying that though.... I don’t use the camera that much but that could be because I have near full capacity 64GB X.

Never regretted on screen size with 6 plus. It was quite a learning curve by then moving from 4s. Back then it was quite flashy.

But I am just simply vain as I am and still with form over function mentality, I will go with 6.1 Pro. Nowadays max size are normalcy and not flashy as before and £100 margin is worth to have it if night mode able to be utilised occasionally.

First world problem. To be precise, Pro users problem
If you have a missus or GF, get max for them so it is sorted.

I went with the 6S+ and 8+ for the improved battery life and haven’t regretted it. Haven’t found the size too big either.

But now with the entry level models sporting great battery life as well, I guess the only deterrent left would be price.

My first big phone was an 8 Plus (up from the 6s). I was worried I might not like it, but I fell in love immediately. Having more screen real estate was fantastic, especially for games and video. Since then I've had the XS Max and the 11 Pro Max, and they're great albeit a little difficult to use one-handed, even with my bigger hands. I wouldn't want them too much bigger though; even though the 12 Max is only marginally bigger, I think this time I'm going to go down to the regular 12/Pro sizing and see how much i like it.

No way - once you go Max, you never go back!

I was a huge advocate of the 5S type size, until I tried out the 6s Plus - now I only have eyes for the Max!

Try it out and see for yourself!

I had the bigger size every model since the 6 plus, but last year I went from the XS max to an 11 pro and it’s so much more useable. I don’t think I’d go back to the bigger size, and am planning on a 12 pro

The max probably wouldn’t fit in my cars wireless charger either, and it’s an SUV lol

I had every plus model from the 6 Plus onwards and I have the XS Max now. I think it's the extra weight of the XS Max but it is way too big. I bought it in January and I'm going to order a 12 tomorrow to replace it. I just hate the size so much, I never thought I would have anything other than the biggest iPhone but I think they finally went too big. If they made an aluminium version to reduce the weight that could help.

I had the iPhone 6 Plus for two years never gone back to a plus sized phone since, the screen size was nice at first then as time went on it was just too big for day to day use, and by the end of my contract I couldn’t wait to get a smaller sized phone.

If you carry your phone around in your pocket constantly, I would go for the standard size, it’s just a much nicer form factor and far easier to use with one hand.

I got the XS max and it was my least favorite phone. Very heavy and hard to use one handed. I prefer the mid size phones because they have the best combination of pocket-ability and battery life. My 12 Pro lasts all day most days - the battery is a beast.

I have alternated between “plus” size phones and regular size iPhones for several years. Every time I have a plus size phone, I enjoy the larger screen but wish it were slightly smaller so it could fit in pockets easier. Every time I have a regular size phone, I enjoy the pocketability and one-hand use but miss the large screen (good for stuff like YouTube, sports highlights, PDFs) and sometimes better camera. Honestly I am wondering if the new 6.1“ size is “just right.” The mini seems interesting but battery life is too good on the larger phones...

I have been a user of the regular Pro size for a while and decided to pick up an 11 Pro Max along with my 11 Pro. I did this because I wanted to see what size 12 Pro I wanted. For me, unfortunately, the Max is just too big. I love the screen size but it's fairly uncomfortable to use and almost impossible for me to use one handed and get the same results so I am going to trade it in when I get my 12 Pro.

It's a great device and I wish I could use it but just can't for myself.

I’ve regretted it twice, most recently with the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Sure the big screen is great, but the weight and physical size are problematic.

I actually downsized to the SE2020 and was surprised by how much I liked the screen. I didn’t miss the larger size. I did miss the much better camera, and the battery life is poor so I have the Apple Smart Battery Case, which adds to the weight, of course, when I’m using it.

I don’t need a new phone at all. But the 12 Mini, 12 and 12 Pro are all tempting me. I won’t go Max again.

If they still sold them, I’d be tempted by an 11 Pro. I think that was a great phone.

I’ve had a plus sized iPhone since 2016. I thoroughly enjoyed the Plus size until this year.

I will be downsizing to the 6.1 inch Pro to get better one handed use and better pocket-ability. One handed use has become very important to me now that I have a newborn that likes sleeping in my arms.

No. I’ve only been with Apple because of their larger screen options. I was hesitant when I first heard the 12 Pro Max was going to be bigger than the current 11 Pro Max, but a couple of mm and 0.06 oz is not breaking my fingers or wrist. I gain a line or two of readability/viewing/screenshot capture. Sticking with the Max.
