The C2D is plenty fast for most of what people want to do. I'm currently ripping cd's in itunes, running processes in a windoze xp session in fusion, and surfing. My new base 13" pro is handling it just fine. Plus the computer doesn't run hot, which is very nice now that summer is hitting.

Unless you have a real need for speed and just want a highly portable laptop, the 13" is a great little machine that won't break the bank.

Purchased a 2010 13" MBP and think it's a GREAT little computer. Fast and travel friendly.

DON'T let the spec-measureabaters win this debate. ~~~~~~~ :p

I bought a 13, it is yet to arrive, getting the HDD upgraded.

I frankly don't see the need for a processor of which I won't use its extra power.

I like the idea of a portable machine with up to 10 hours battery life and will handle all of my mobile computing needs.

This is my first MBP and first Mac for everyday use, I had an old iBook for a while, and it was clunky and crap, just got it cheap second hand to use for movies on the train etc.

I cannot wait for my MBP anymore, I am pulling my hair out waiting for it to even ship.

uhhh core 2 duo can not be compared to that, and your telling me you would pay under $1000 for one? cause I would not use a free P3 laptop.
Sorry for the late reply, but i am just using your logic. Just because it fits your needs and it looks good, its alright to pay preminum price for yesterday technolgy.

Granted that Mac users should get used to be compromised (tech wise), they should try to buy something that is more bang for the buck, which is the 15 inch with either i5 or i7 chip. But it could be just me.

I'm totally satisfied with my 2010 13" MBP, it's fast, small footprint, fits well in a bag, on any table much more convenient than traveling with my 15" MBP.

I like my 15" MBP too, but it doesn't leave the house as much, gets used mostly in home office / den.

More often than not I find the 13" MBP screen adequate, whereas if I bring my 15" MBP on a trip instead I bitch more about the size / weight than I enjoy the extra 2" of screen real estate.

I gave up being a 'spec whore' a while back, it's all about user experience and that includes both hardware and OS.

Yes, I own one.

I've owned a 12" PowerBook G4, 15" PowerBook G4, 17" PowerBook G4, MacBook (White) MacBook (Black)
And my most recent, a 13" 2009 Revision 2.53GHz. (Although on the 17th it will be a year)

Honestly, this is the best laptop I have EVER owned. It's light, portable, small, has upgradeable RAM and HDD, and is just great for a day of carrying around wherever I need to go. It's also quite speedy.
When I bought it, there were not any i series processors out, so there was no need to worry.
I use Photoshop CS3, and the iLife suite, as well as the older version of Office, and occasionally do day to day gaming. When I'm at home, I plug it into a 23" Apple Cinema Display, and that solves the problem of the low resolution complaints. Plus, after using my second monitor, a 20" Dell that runs at 1440x900, when looking at the MacBook's screen the resolution looks really great! xD
All in all, it's a great unit, however if I was re-buying a computer right now, I would most likeley buy the base 15" model, although I would miss the small form factor and portability of this unit. If I place my 12" PowerBook on top, this model is only slightly bigger. Plus, if you're complaining about the 1200x800 resolution of the MacBook Pro 13" Try using Photoshop or Final Cut on a 12" PowerBook for a month or two (1024x768 :O )
All in all, what i'm trying to say is, unless you plan on doing some serious gaming, or some movie editing in final cut, if you want a great little machine the 13" is probably right for you. When you're on the road and need a unit that has everything (sorry Air fans) a 13" is great. It also fits on most economy Airplane trays quite snugly.

I have a 2.26Ghz C2D MacBook and I'm fine with it,it's all to true we get cought up in the numbers,I rarely have more than 3 apps open, and this machine is perfect for me. :)

I waited and was a little disappointed..

when they announced the 13" MBP would receive only minor upgrades.

I bought it anyway and have been satisfied with it.

Yes once in a while the lack of AG bothers me. Yes once in a while the text and screen seem too small.

Is is too slow? No way! My HD is big enough. I've only used less than a third of it. I am wondering about the usefulness of the optical drive. I do use it once a week or so and i don't need the extra room for anything else, but i am seeing that they are on their way out.

Oh, the battery life is insane! just dim the monitor a bit and turn off the keyboard back light, and it goes forever.

This is my first Mac and I don't think I will ever go back.

Its not all a marketing & numbers ploy, benchmarks show that an MBP with i7 core is 35-40% faster than a 13" MPB with C2D. I would like to keep my MBP for a 2-3 years hence I got the MBP 15" i7 core. Besides the 13" screen real estate is too small for my needs.

I wanted an i5 in the 13" since it's the most portable out of the three...but I needed a laptop quick, so I purchased mine :]

**Going to upgrade around September to get the back to school deal :}

I was going with the 13" for it's size and the portability to power ratio it offers, but when it came down to sitting there ready to click the order button I felt that the I7 offered some better futureproofing.

So went with the 15"\4gb\7.2krpm\antiglare setup.

my concern is c2d macbook pro is short one year on how long I would keep it. i7 will last and be useful at least a year after c2d becomes obsolete. c2d is last years tech. next year i7 will be replaced by something better and c2d will be even older.

what are the odds of mba getting ulv i7?

old != obsolete

I had the opportunity of having both the 13" and 15" for a while, but I'm glad I kept the 13".

smart you cant keep up with specs. i am always more concerned with a major redesign like intel or unibody design because for what i do c2d vs i7 does not matter.

Im fine with my 13, its actually one I got back in December because I didnt feel like waiting for what I figured wouldnt be that significant of an update, the new graphics and 3 extra hours of battery wouldve been nice but im happy with what ive got.

Note that I dont use my laptop for much heavy duty stuff, all I need is web browsing, iTunes, and word processing.

Bought a 15" due to the crappy screen on the 13" (low resolution/glossy is a definite deal-breaker for me). If Apple gave better screen options on the 13" models (or at least gave OS X resolution independence) I'd of bought one over the 15" no doubt.

I upgraded to a 15" because of the processor, I thought that the 13" was going to be upgraded to at least an i5, but C2D was no choice for me. Now I'm really happy with this beauty, and I don't really think I can go back to a 13" again, love this screen...

I wanted a Mac and of course I wanted the best specs I could get. But the 15 inch was too big for the desks at my school and wouldn't fit the lockers (yes I know, they are really small). I got the high-end 13 inch MBP and am pretty happy with it. It runs everything smoothly, and the battery life is amazing. I may get a bigger one in the future, but the screen size and resolution on the 13 inch suits me.

The screen size, no matter the tech specs, is a huge issue with me. I am editor of my schools journalism department and a english major to be. I type for hours and hours and the screen size is to much for me!!

I bought a 13" because it fitted my needs. I didn't need to perform any special tasks or run any demanding programs. For what it is, the 13" is just fine for what it's intended for. I didn't wait for a new update due to the fact that I didn't need to wait another year for an update that would not be significant. (Disagree with me as much as you want but the new Core processors just aren't going to do much with the current 13" model setup.)

Now the reason for why I didn't get a 15" or 17" was just due to budget. If I could afford the models with bigger and better screens, of course I would go for it. Was it worth it for me to pay hundreds of dollars more for the bigger models? Probably not, and this was purely a personal choice. I'm now using the 13" and I'm not looking back.
