A 6 foot bed is too short in length to haul a proper payload to me but its fine as a minimum. I always preferred the extended 8 foot bed it comes in real handy for hauling building materials (almost any standard materials for a construction project come in 8 foot lengths)...

The Mahindra, like my old '86 Toyota 1-Ton, has a 7.5 foot bed, which is pretty useful because an 8-foot sheet of plywood or drywall will fit in with the tailgate down - not as nice as an 8-foot bed but it's a better size for a small truck and a lot better than a 6-foot bed.

Way back in the day, I used to have a Ford Courier. It had a six foot box that I used to sleep in while on overnight fishing trips. I'm 6'2" and fit just fine with the tailgate down.
A sheet of plywood would fit fine in a 6 footer, but I wouldn't want to go with anything shorter. It just needs a small box, or someone will surely try to put 4 yards of rock in it
