The physical what unit itself is the same, it’s the strap you get that differs and the Nike model offers some additional watch face options.

If you’ve no preference, have a look at how much the Nike sport loop is going for on eBay.... you could buy the Nike and sell the band.

Another trivial difference is that when you say "Siri, let's go for a run", the AW Sport will open the workout app. The Nike AW will open the NRC app.

My advice would be to buy whichever one you can get a better deal on, or whichever one you like the band the best.

No difference in terms of watch itself and price (Apple RRP).
Choose the one you like.

I agree with ftaok, go with the one that you like the band better on (or if one is a better deal). For the velcro band (Sport loop?), the nike ones are nike-specific colors of the same band. On the other plastic band, the Nike watch comes with a band that's only available on the Nike watches, and aftermarket. It has additional holes in the plastic to lighten the band and allow for improved ventilation. the lighter weight is not noticeable to me, but the additional ventilation is very noticeable when I run.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11 or later. Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 11 or later. Apple Watch Series 1 requires an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 11 or later.
iOS on a 5 would be a real ball-ache...

I think older watches support the iPhone 5 if they’re still on watchOS 3.

But as has already been said, if you’re rocking a 5 you need a phone before you need a watch!

well that ends that idea then :)

Thanks

If I were you I’d consider a series 1 (not a series 0)

The fact that you have a 5 means you’re comfortable with not having the fastest device.

I found the performance jump from the series 0 to series 1 was huge. The jump from 1 to 3 was noticeable but less so.

Series 1 are available used for £150 in the UK... probably $150 too if you’re in the US.

Series 1 requires a 5S.

That is straight from Apple on the Apple Watch Compare site. Are you saying Apple doesn't know the requirements of the Apple Watch?

https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/

You’re reading what Apple are saying on their site today, rather than historical info that is relevant from when the product launched.

Series 1 can still be bought from Apple and will probably come with WatchOS 4. It therefore requires something running iOS 11 like a 5S.

If you buy a series 1 watch running watchOS 3 then it will work with iOS 10 and that includes a iPhone 5.

Here's some things Nike+ offers vs. regular Sport:

- Nike+ watch faces (Nike+ Digital Face being one of my favs)
- Nike+ Digital face has a NRC complication integrated into it (this is perhaps a minor annoyance because it means you can only have 3 other complications of your choice on this face)
- Nike+ specific colors (eg. Volt etc)
- Nike+ watch bands (which you can surely also buy separately should you go for Sport)
- subtle Nike+ logo on the back of your watch

Just a different strap and additional watch faces. It might be best to go for the Nike over the standard sport model.

You can’t buy all the Nike bands separately. Crimson/Black is exclusive, and I think there are others.
